can anyone help... i think someone shared here a website for auctions for local goods... useful for getting rid of household items/kind of like where Ebay meets estate sale-ing... ??

it had decent activity levels in Southern California (where i am) when i checked, but i have no idea if it was a local service here or not

EDIT: it was this: https://maxsold.com/ , i found it in my text message history 🙃 (but had definitely seen it here)

thanks!! (boosts welcome)

Multipage

Just noting Mat's Multipage Version zine rules. I bought both issues right away. It's weird, it's funny, it's a work of art, and you might even learn something....

Prison quilt stories just gut me

The incarcerated men couldn't be interviewed about the quilt they made, but they did provide write ups that accompany photos in the article. The man who didn't like participating until his brother died... goddamn

Edit: added a photo because the article didn't preview

One of the things I wanted for the original version of absenter.org two decades ago was the ability to have multiple photos per day. The layout/format didn’t quite work for it and I never figured it out.

With the current version, past entries are on a horizontal plane (you can use keys and swipe). I had the idea to use the vertical plane for multiple images per day (you can key, swipe, and mouse/trackpad scroll).

Still dialing things in, but a good evolution.

Follow the money: OpenAI has been giving cash stipends to college students to run astroturfed events on campuses. This "OpenAI Student Collective" is not a registered student organization and it's unclear how such an event could be compliant with the Campus Use of University Facilities policy, which normally prohibits commercial use of classrooms. (These are typical at any university. Note the dodgy language about whether one needs to form an official student group.)

https://openai.com/student-collective/

I don't know how big OpenAI's cash stipends are, but Anthropic's are $3600.

This afternoon, the Boulder Faculty Assembly passed a resolution (after strengthening via amendment) calling for no extension of the OpenAI contract. Vote was 39-8-1 after suspending the bylaws, as necessary to meet the chancellor's artificial decision deadline of tomorrow.

The CU Student Government meeting was this evening and public comment was fired up about their corresponding resolution, talking about trust, societal impact, and genuine commitment to learning. So energizing.

CU Student Government passed their corresponding resolution (with lots of context and calls for shared governance) unanimously on first reading, as necessary to meet the chancellor's deadline. I am so proud of their curiosity, purpose, commitment to shared governance, and parliamentary skills. ❤️

University administrators play on our division. They have claimed that there is no coherent message from faculty or students about "AI". That refusal is fringe. That OpenAI contracts are ordinary procurements not subject to shared governance.

May the record show that faculty and students speak as one. ✊️

Today was a good day for democracy, no matter what the chancellor deigns to do with this information tomorrow.
