I feel that presentation standards on Etsy have got out of hand. This isn't a print, it's collage.
Gosh thanks, but you know I'm not your mom right? just some rando buying a rock here?

Binder jetted steel with bronze infiltration is no more: the last source has discontinued the technology. All service bureaus that offered this material have taken it down, which tends to confirm my (and their) understanding that no one is continuing it.

20 years we dreamed together. It could do what other binder jetting processes couldn't and can't, and I built my art practice around it. Well, the market has spoken.

If you own a piece in this material, now you have a historical artifact.

I made a thing. 3D and credits at https://bathsheba.com/tmp/3D/zojigi.html.

Why I'm not on bluesky.
Mastodon isn't easy and most people I'd want to know aren't here, but I don't get how it's fun to keep joining places that go down the drain before I'm done saying hello world.

The fediverse might conceivably figure itself out someday, but for-profit platforms will always enshittify ever faster.

Thanks folks. I should walk again but that'll be about all, and having seen the 'before' x-ray I'm happy enough to get it.
Luckily I drew a genius surgeon, looks like she used a whole Meccano set and some baling wire, but she managed to put it back together.
Image warning: x-ray showing my knee hardware.

Recovered enough to go back in
#SynthRidersVR (@synthridersvr), which I got into when I busted my ACL, and wow it was nice to be back.
The official multiplayer events are shining beacons of internet wholesomeness and have only gotten better while I was away. The singalong chorus has filled out (we finally got some basses!), and the intro room is now run by a 70yo granny. This is the content I require.

I broke my knee a few weeks ago and have been pretty well offline. It's a gnarly one, going forward I won't be wasting so much energy on "fun" in its physical form.
Interrupted a promising coding project too, not to mention all eleven of my day jobs.

I met this dalekalike trundling around a local supermarket. Not sure what it was doing?
It has many cameras and little respect for personal space. I'm particularly impressed by its height, menacing demeanor, and lack of any indication what direction it intends to move next. Like a 6-foot 300-pound Roomba let loose in a busy public space.
The age of ingratiating robots has ended, out of the way or get bodychecked puny hu-mans.

Kickstarter coming soon for my work in large-format bronze-infused resin: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1-art/1-art-revolutionising-bronze-art!

If you have a Shapeways shop that you may want to reincarnate somewhere else, here's a reminder that you can still dump items, categories, materials, prices to csv files at https://www.shapeways.com/shop/pricing-csv .
Don't wait if you might want this, the site could go down any minute.
That doesn't include your files, dimensions, descriptions 😢, but for me just capturing the list of names has value.

Well it seems Shapeways is gone - the original of a good idea that they never could quite get working.
In related news*, I'm now without a source for binder jetted steel which is my main sculpture medium. Suggestions welcome!
I've worked with most of the brokers (Xometry, Craftcloud etc) and ideally I'd like to start a new relationship with a direct source.

The way I'm generating these, they have an obvious high-genus surface that is clearly implied, but it's also clear others exist. I just want to look at them is that so wrong?

I have a lot of links embedded prettily in 3-space, and I want to look at Seifert surfaces on them.
I can flatten them into knot diagrams and find the braid word etc and use the standard algos, but then how would I pull the result back onto my original nice embedding?
Or is there any method of building Seifert surfaces on links in 3D without relaxing and flattening them into canonical posture?

From 1932 to 1976 Air France's logo was the Hippocampe ailé, or winged horse sea monster. (Now of course it is a miserably generic sans serif wordmark.)

Years ago when I used to fly around on business, I flew on Air France and the wine glass had such a cool logo that I was obliged to steal it.
Ever since I've wondered, wtf, and today I learned.
