So far I've been studying Papyrix's code for booting up its hardware & filesystems, as well as text-rendering when it has to report errors. I was very keen to study that text-rendering!

Next it initializes one of 2 UI modes, today I'll study how it chooses which to boot.

1st it checks if the "pending transition" in the saved settings is 1, handling that specially.

P.S. The code has evolved since I started my study, so I'm now studying it roughly as it was when I began.

If that pending transition is 1 Papryix logs some data, updates a cached transition to match, & zeroes out (via a helper) the transition settings, & indicates it should boot into UI mode.

Otherwise if it was 2 & it remembers which book you're reading (validating it still exists), Papyrix some similar logic but instead chooses Reader mode. Or it might do essentially the same if configured to & if it remembers you had a valid book open.

Otherwise it boots into UI mode.

Really, I think libraries should also be actual data centers.

As in, a server closet. Preferability solar powered by panels on the building's roof.

It can host neighborhood email and bulletin boards, personal websites, offer some shared services and compute.

translate.codeberg.org was during periods of today unavailable, due to heavy crawling activity. We have now restricted the service to only make it accessible if you are logged in via Codeberg.

We hope this change will improve the availability and latency of translate.

Finally getting around to putting together my @rc2014 Mini II Picasso, and let me tell you, it's a delight to build.

One little known paradox is that systems programmers who develop programming languages in the early years of their project spend all of the time reading and writing code in the host language their language is written in.

That balance eventually changes once work shifts to improving the standard library and later after self-hosting is achieved. But that process can take years.

The pace of mechanography has accelerated, but the human brain still can't be overclocked. Genuinely difficult design problems are still capped at human brain speed.

Austrian agrivoltaics provider EWS has reported a 14% increase in winter wheat yield at its Sonnenfeld research site in Bruck an der Leitha compared with a control area without PV modules.

Earlier this year, Sun’Agri in France reported an increase in yield for grapes and in California, increase in endangered native wildflowers.

@nuwagaba2 Yes, by the nature of it 🙂 kWh is the volume of energy, not the level of energy at a certain point. 250kWh is as much energy as collecting or releasing 250.000 Watts in an hour. Of course we collected that amount over 11 weeks instead of an hour, so much less collected per hour.
