The United States likes to think it’s the best country in the world, but in reality it has been captured by a wealthy death cult intent on preserving the fossil fuel economy and stopping clean energy development simply for short term profits. Never mind the fact that even the rich can’t live on a dead planet.

If every single one of the people involved in this ISN’T locked up for treason, the oligarchs have won.

It really bums me out that once again Daniel Donato is coming to the triangle (specifically #Raleigh) but playing a very problematic venue. Now the Lincoln Theater is usually fine (750 capacity) for up and coming bands. But Donato is so popular, he easily sells out a three night run, resulting in so packed you can barely move conditions. In addition the layout sucks, the floor is GA, but most of the tiered standing space above the floor in the middle is "VIP" which just means they sell tickets that are double the price so you have room and good views. Everyone else is either on the floor where you can't move or stuck on the two narrow side aisles with people pushing past you all night. There's a second floor, but if you don't get there super early, you don't have a spot on the rail which means limited sight lines. Basically there's an entire demographic he's missing out on who won't go to sold out shows at the Lincoln theater. Long past time to upgrade to better venues.

Here’s the thing. It looks like a political cartoon, but it’s real. The slices of the pizza are exactly mathematically proportional to reality. We are being screwed every single day by rich oligarchs. And we know it. It’s time to fundamentally change the power structure in our economy. Nothing will change if we continue to allow money to be the ultimate goal and arbiter of power.

Providing truly affordable housing for at-risk populations is the most beneficial thing you can do.

Do we have these kinds of things in the triangle? #Raleigh #Durham #ChapelHill #NorthCarolina #NC

At first to thought she was overstating her case, but damn, she really nails the thesis statement at the end, and I can’t disagree.

#Country

Hate to sound like an old grouch, but I agree with this. #MLB #GetOffMyLawn

The hypocrisy is galling.

"In 2003, the early days of what has since become his dictatorship, Putin jailed just one billionaire oligarch, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, and all the rest immediately fell into line. When a few press outlets dared challenge him, reporter Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead in her apartment building’s elevator and the Russian press hasn’t spoken up since."

"In the weeks after the Reichstag fire in 1933, Hitler opened a detention facility at Dachau and threw a few thousand leftwing commentators, politicians, and journalist (among them Carl von Ossietzky) in as a message to the rest of the country."

Fascists follow the same playbook, why rule with tanks when you can rule with intimidation? The raid on Ilhan Omar was exactly that. This post contains a long list of other intimidation tactics.

And for the most part it's having the intended effect. Be aware, more of this is coming.

#Fascism doesn’t work nearly as well without a #surveillance state so you get stories like this…

Imagine going back and telling a 2010 Republican that the US is actively working against our allies and supporting Russia in a war. They would be absolutely apoplectic.

But that’s what the president of the United States is currently doing.

What are we hearing from Republicans? 🦗🦗🦗

What’s the “opposition” party doing? 🦗🦗🦗

“asking him to do “the bare minimum of being a senator” often involves “begging” him to take meetings, one former staffer said, sharing a sentiment echoed by several others.
“It was like arguing with a toddler every day,” the former staffer said, adding that it felt like “arguing with him nonstop to pretty much get out of bed in the morning and tie his shoes.”

[Over a dozen former staffers] “Repeatedly and consistently describe Fetterman — who is paid a $174,000 salary and received $517,500 in book advances for his memoir, according to financial disclosures — as a “lazy” lawmaker who declines to meet with constituents or colleagues and is dismissive of criticism.”

And he’s basically stopped voting with Democrats and often supports Trump.

Last batch! All those English Muffins were trial runs for the final event. These are the ones I made today and submitted to the #NorthCarolina State Fair. Very pleased with how they turned out. I’ll let y’all know if I win a ribbon. (No expectations, competition here is tough.)

There’s quite the #BBQ drama going on in #Durham, #NC right now. Dampf Good BBQ is a permanent food truck situation in Cary. Their Q is Texas style, but still very good.

They recently announced they were going to open a brick a mortar downtown Durham location in the building that used to house The Pit (a now defunct BBQ joint).

HOWEVER, the Dampf owners are very vocal homophobic, transphobic, anti-vaxers. Durham, NC is a vibrant liberal city that is very LGBTQ+ friendly and has venues such as the Pinhook which regularly host drag nights, etc.

So of course the subreddit r/bullcity called out their shit and came with receipts (screenshots of offensive social media posts), to which the restaurant then tried to play the victim, but ultimately backed out of the physical location in Durham.

My favorite part is quoted in the N&O article, even the mayor was like “Maybe they should have done their research...”
