I'm seeing a lot of posts 'encouraging' Americans to vote, which is cool, except they're mostly doing it by screaming that if the world falls into fascism it will be Personally Our Fault. Meanwhile, our govt is working overtime to undermine elections, is preparing to question any results that don't favor them, and May call out the military. You want to promote voting? Do it. But it's Mastodon - many already have, many are at terrible risk if we lose, and most are terrified. Don't be a jag. <3

Patrick Stewart may have been the first cis man I ever saw full-heartedly support Queer and Trans people, (when he did a cover interview with The Advocate in the late 90s), and while he may not have been, by his own admission, 100% het, he always certainly seemed to be someone who understood how to be an ally, and how to be both expansive and rigorous in that allyship. Captain, we will miss you and your kind smile.

Little Known Fact (by white people like myself, i find):
When a marginalized person is interacting with you and then you say something and then they get real quiet and sip their drink and look at their wrist like they own a smartwatch when they don't, this is a Bad Thing and you should re-examine what you said.

Me at a meeting: "Yes, most of us in the Trans community here are honestly frightened and..."
Lady at the meeting:
*interrupting*
"Well, those of us in the ALLY community are concerned about..."

*facepalm*

... the 'ally community'?

I am a Disabled writer and artist who isn't allowed to own money or the government will let me die without medical care.

I have been studying Blender on my own and recently took the step of signing up for a class. *cue ominous music*

My vidcard, like the one above except 8gb, promptly spit up bits and died.

A friend is trying to raise funds to get me a new one. Help? Thank you to all who read/boost/donate! <3

As they are preparing the ground to declare all Trans people, Democrats and, well, women, to be 'violent extremists', I'm wishing even harder I had the ability to protest at detention centers. Please understand, those of you with the joy of abled bodies and means, this may be your One Chance. It's not only guns and gas that can keep us back, it's a million things we Can't protest. I'm painfully aware of the low impact of virtual activism; if you're not limited to that, don't limit yourself.

Once, I had a dream that I was a young dragon, in a classroom full of young dragons. We were cute, pudgy and blue, but the adult form of our species was large, golden and spiky. We were practicing our adult forms in class, accomplished by concentrating very hard. Suffice it to say, the sight of so many pudgy blue dragonlings trying and trying to turn gold and spiky was pretty funny. There were a lot of halfway points that didn't look remotely intimidating. I have no idea why I had this dream.

I feel as though I'm going mad, but this is the world we live in so: Can someone please tell me that #Roots by #AlexHaley is still in print? I'm not finding new copies of it for sale, for some reason. I can get older editions used, I know. Any leads/obvious things I'm overlooking? (I'm not overlooking the racism that could leave such important work unmaintained, but I'm desperately hoping against hope).

T Von Singletary is one of the most generous, knowledgeable and persistent organizers I've ever met. They have devoted years of work and dedication to urban farming, environmental preservation and rehabilitation, and justice for Black and Brown communities.

They've taught me more of their lived experience than I had any right to, and they're still my friend, demonstrating their eternal patience.

None of this pays well.

Please help, if you can:

Are you looking to up your donations to #Black individuals for any reason?

None of this pays well.

They also have medical needs that aren't being fully met. Any contributions to them will benefit multiple individuals.
Please help them. They really need it.

So my partner of 20 years, a genuinely brilliant autodidact and also fairly odd, once found a CD in a used bin called, "The Amazing Sounds of Threatened Birds". Intrigued and slightly disturbed, he bought it for a dollar and brought it home to play.

There, it Finally occurred to him that the birds were, in fact, Endangered, and Not being menaced with tiny knives, or aggressive audits or something.

That made more sense, really.

So they're telling me I have a micafungin-resistant esophageal infection. I've had it since November, and the doctors who treated it initially likely caused the resistance with an upward taper of fluconazole (for some reason). I'm waiting for cultures for strain. Pretty scared. If you are a Medical Professional or a patient of This Specific Condition, please feel free to offer reading resources, but otherwise I'd really appreciate kind words, or little gifs. For example.

I am seeing lots of posts from Black Fedi users about the racism situation here. (Not only recently, but maybe an uptick). I very much hope that white users are listening and learning, because this is the Biggest issue I can see holding us back from being a truly inclusive environment. As long as we have white people of various levels of marginalization deciding that a little oppression means we don't have to think about our own bigotry anymore, we are going to be silencing Black voices.

I'd really like it if fewer of my fellow white people would refer to the deaths of Venezuelan sailors, Palestinians, and Syrians as "distractions" from anything.

Are we meant to be distracted? Of course, and from a Great Many Things, not only from files, or other domestic evils. These atrocities do not exist Solely within that context, and to frame them that way is not only reductive, but extremely harmful.

Many things can be true at once. This administration's guilt is broad-spectrum.

Trans Day of Remembrance is always rough. Every year, I update a poem of mine titled, "Ritual to Summon Roses", with first names and pronouns of the Trans Americans murdered in the past year, those we know of.

I was overcome when I saw that on every list for this year, Jonathan Joss, a cis man murdered defending his Trans spouse, was included. In an era of performative allyship, let us deeply mourn and celebrate our cis siblings who stand strong for us.

The play follows a series of character-archetypes of different folks you'd meet on the street. It borrows heavily from my own experiences as a housing insecure sex worker in my 20s.

Accessibility was always crucial to me throughout the production process and in order to make it truly an equal experience for the Deaf and ASL-using crowd, both languages must be integral to the piece.

Hello! I am looking for people who are #Deaf with lived experience of homelessness, willing to collaborate, for credit and compensation, on a writing project.

I am a playwright, and my 1 Act became a bilingual English/ASL production when we staged it. Unfortunately, none of my original characters were culturally Deaf. I am looking for Deaf, preferably #ASL-fluent collaborator(s?) to co-write a new character, with their own scene, to mesh.

Oh no I have diabetes now! They're still figuring out how, since I wasn't prediabetic last month, but that isn't bringing my glucose down. I've started Metformin about 3 days ago, but no movement yet. How long does this take?

BG is 250-300+ day, only down at night. I am Throttling carbs, no added sugars. Two non-food things raise it: Caffeine, and Prednisone. I'm not finding a lot of info on how much is normal, so if anyone knows of a chart or something, lmk! Ty all! <3

TW: mention of genitals, surgery
***
When I was four years old, I told my mother I was sure I was Both a boy and a girl, not one or the other. She told me, "God made you a girl", and now I can't unhear her saying that, knowing she knew what she knew. I wonder what my life would have been like without surgery, what I might have felt or experienced, whether sex would ever have been easier to navigate for me. I wish I had the chance to know for sure.
