See Helmut Salden, Jurriaan Schrofer and Wim Crouwel in this 1970 episode of ‘Openbaar Kunstbezit’. A cultural show on Dutch public television. Schrofer discusses letters with his students and makes them draw an a, confusing everyone. Salden speaks about how he discovered lettering and a young Crouwel mentions lasers and grids. No subtitles. Very good work by @beeldengeluid in making this history accessible. https://schatkamer.beeldengeluid.nl/serie/2101608030021553431/openbaar-kunstbezit/aflevering/2101608060043715931 #typehistory #openbaarkunstbezit

It’s taken a while to put into words what I find so distasteful about AI in type design (even — especially — the ‘boring parts’). It’s not the threat of being put out of a job.
