I'd forgotten the URL for @benbrown 's brilliant tool to make pixel art. Fortunately the link is on his profile and it is...

https://makepixelart.com

You'd think I'd remember that. No worries, it is safely bookmarked now!

Another happy half hour cutting decades old cable boxes off the side of the house. I know the two lines I want to keep attached; electric and the strand of fiber I watched them dig in. The rest of you are gone. Especially you, thirty year old, sun brittled coax!

Love it when a site says "sign up for our newsletter, but if you don't want to give us your email here's our RSS feed instead".

Let's have more of this!

Climbing gym has a new waiver. It auto-complete suggestions for name fields and phone numbers from past entries! :neocat_blank:

One of this weekend's projects is to shift from 1Password to KeepassXC. Local control of my data, getting off the corporate cloud, and other realising my primary use cases were my home machine and my phone helped make the shift easier.

So far it seems to be going well. I'll test for a few days before deleting the other account.

Me: oh I could put Yunohost on my torrentbox and save running three machines.

Also me: crap, it's running Ubuntu. Guess I'll be swapping that for Debian when I have a bit more time so I can do all the things.

Also also me: And by then I'll be putting Debian on my M1 Mac Mini and could do all the things there and save running two machines.

Eventually I'll get distracted and no machines will be working :blobfoxsad:

Huge thanks as always to @adele for hosting at pollux.casa because although T-mobile fiber won't give me a static IP, thanks to good backups my #smolweb #gemini_protocol capsule is up again at:

gemini://problemfox.pollux.casa/

now to go setup some url forwarding :neofox_vr:

Just found a note in my handwriting at the bottom of an old box of pencils. It reads:

Nomad Gnome Ad

My new Uni Kuri Toga mechanical pencils arrived, along with the Kaweco Lunar Sport pocket fountain pen with medium nib that I wanted to try.

Not used a disposable plastic pen in months.

Ordered a replacement Kuru Toga mechanical pencil today to replace one I lost a year ago traveling.

Can't wait for it to arrive as they are fantastic pencils for writing with. When I first tried it the rotating pencil lead took some getting used to, but it definitely keeps the tip pointed and saves me from wriggling the pencil around.

Adding accounts that repost or bridge posts from other platforms but do not engage on fedi to my list of "mute don't boost" rules.

My county sent out a questionnaire on local priorities. This was the penultimate question and the formatting seems to favor a specific answer.

I use hashtags so you can find a post that interests you.

I do not use hashtags to grow exposure or allow promotion, reuse, or aggregation of my content via bots, scrapers, LLMs, or any other means.

As temperatures soar I'm reminded of the article "How to dress and undress your home" from the solar powered Low Tech Magazine. The rest of the website is worth a look too.

Realising I am saving more of my personal writing on computers in #geminiProtocol gemtext. As a flavour of markdown it's easy to write, human readable, easy to transform, portable, and durable.

This might be a good thing.

The impermanence of the web seems to be accelerating. It may be easy to spot the big corporate services that shut down or wither away, but as I follow down rabbit holes the niche fan sites and web rings that used to be the fun of the web frequently end in 404 errors.

I was drifting around sites for the BBC Radio 4 show The Masterson Inheritance and found a fabulous fansite that proudly stated it was created in 1996 and last updated in 2006, but every link on its links page was dead except for Wikipedia.

The web I thought would always be there to fill in those fun facts on quiet evenings is vanishing as we all get old, and the blogs and servers get switched off. Makes me want to save what I love now, locally and elsewhere on the web to persist it.

My daughter is quitting dance class so this weekend is her last recital. I've just dropped her at dress rehearsal.
"Scan the QR code to get a message when to collect her"
It loads a badly formatted page showing a quarter of their logo, no buttons, no instructions.
"Oh, you need to install the app then scan the code"
I already gave my name and phone number but this is the only way they'll message me.
I install an app, have to provide a name, email, date of birth, and phone number to create an account.
I scan the code and am added to the group bush notificatiion.

This debacle could have been a simple sms blast using the phone numbers they already have on file! Instead it is forced consent to give away identifying information and open my device to whatever this app does just to collect my child!

And having ordered it, I found this post reviewing it. Looks like it might help!
