Here's a great letter from Susan Jones (a retired insurance underwriter) on why the NHS will *always* cost the UK less than a private health insurance system;

which emphasises that those arguing for such a shift are either misinformed, or (more likely) just do the bidding of their corporate sponsors with little actual interest in the UK's fiscal politics.

Further reasons to ignore the clamouring for a US-like health system, should you really need them!

Apparently I can only do one video per post. Here’s a big one.

Thanks to @Extelec for a fun day out at Gaussfest at the London Museum of Water and Steam yesterday.

A lot of fun with some great displays. I wasn’t expecting the volume. Favourites were the one that sounded like it should have been in a nightclub and one that was playing the theme from Empire Strikes Back. Didn’t manage video of either of these.

The museum was really interesting as well and I’d never heard of it before. Also got to say hi to a few Fedizens.

The annual migration to their ancestral breeding grounds of the antlered giant prairie snail is a rare, but inspiring sight for any human to behold ...

I got to make some art on a roll of thermal paper, without any thermal printer! This handheld Tesla coil shoots out high voltage sparks which burns the zigzag pattern in to the paper

Had a great day out at the #Gaussfest today. Thanks @Extelec for arranging it.

Fabulous day at London Museum of water and steam for the Gaussfest.

Sparks were made, hundreds of people were spoken too.

Thanks to the museum, volunteers, and coilers for making it such a great day.

More pictures to come soon, after sleep

@Extelec Thanks Derek for organising the the show. Many sparks and grey beards, though thankfully little meeting of the two that I noticed!

computers have replaced so many physical tools that now we can't even design skeuomorphic interfaces properly anymore, because the youngest generation aren't familiar with any of the objects the visual analogies are supposed to suggest

We have power.

Excellent to have my first session today with someone coming to the #Doghouse for some one to one bespoke training on @freecad Very much enjoyed it and they said they did too and learnt a lot.

Satnav has taken me a different way.

Waiting for it to say "Sorry Derek I can't do that"

Off to set up for the Gaussfest. See many of you tomorrow.

Man installs ‘placebo’ thermostat to let family think they’re putting the heating on.
A man has installed a fake thermostat in the hall of his three-bed semi in the hope it will prevent his wife and children putting the heating on any time they ‘feel a bit chilly’.
