The fog tongue blew in all day. Strong wind accompanies the fog. We paddled out the gate along the edge of the fog and entered the fog at Point Bonita, where conditions were mild enough to pass through the stone arch in the headland beneath the lighthouse.
Dawn at the Gate. Sun rising behind the hills just to the left of Point Cavallo.

Yes, but in a small town, the Mayor and City Council know that the financial health of their community depends on the reputation of the Big U in their town. It’s indirect, but still powerful.

Let’s push this idea out there.
But, let’s analyze it, too. Supermarkets are a low-margin business. If they must refund self-checkout, they will raise prices to do that. Is it a good idea to have full-checkout customers subsidizing self-checkout customers? Because supermarkets don’t charge extra for credit card purchases (for which vendors pay a bank fee), we already have cash customers subsidizing credit-card customers.

Oh, my! Does it have heddles? How can you throw a shuttle that far? The pieces in the background are beautiful!
Tomales Bay is one of the most dangerous water bodies in California.
Our group of 30 kayakers camped at Marshall Beach, some arriving on Thursday, others on Friday and some on Saturday morning. Dire wind forecasts yielded calm winds most days. However, for our Sunday afternoon departure north, the forecast was realized. Winds of 20 kts, gusting to 25 kts. Big chop. Conditions where people often end up in the cold water, poorly dressed for conditions and often without their pfds (life jackets).
With twelve relatively novice kayakers, students in a five-weekend skills clinic run by club volunteers, we organized into pods, each with students and strong volunteers. We paddled up the east shore of Tomales Point, resting in the lee of each point. Henry One, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s rescue helicopter, flew over but banked off to the north. Finally, at Pelican Point, we headed across the bay to Miller Boat Launch (Nick’s Cove). Scary waves, parallel to boats.
Everyone made it back with no problems. Yay us!

RIP Robin Morgan. What a horrible week.
Female Anna’s hummingbird visited a few peach-colored Salvia x jamensis flowers, then left. Shortly thereafter, a male Anna’s hummingbird tried to feed at the same bush, but female swooped in from across the street and chased him away. She landed on pine across street and he departed to the east. Now, she has returned to feed again.

Which will, of corse, find its way into a Trump pocket of some sort.

In lieu of al text: the image shows a map of the southeastern US, including the Gulf of Mexico, which is labeled “Gulf of America” except that “America” is crossed out and below it is inserted “Belgium,” to make the name “Gulf of Belgium.”

Lunched with friends at Anh restaurant today. We rode our bikes down the Bay Trail. It was really windy, but sunny and warm on the restaurant patio.

They are bivalves (clams), so it’s not surprising that they taste like oysters.
