I noticed years ago that I don't really like other mice anymore but never really investigated why..

Now I'll soon be starting a new job, and since there currently is no MX518-shaped mouse on the market I looked into other mice and realized why other mice annoy me:
Around the mouse buttons, the MX518 has this broad black rim - and I got used to "parking" my middle finger on the rim of the right mouse button. So on normal mice I tend to accidentally right-click...

I'm having the most ridiculous 1st-World Problem:
Many years ago I got a Logitech MX 518 mouse and got used to it.
Eventually it was kinda worn down and its rubberized parts got sticky, but luckily Logitech then released that "Legendary" reissue with the same form but more modern electronics and a better-looking case.
This reissue has been discontinued years ago, I still use mine, it's still ok, I only sometimes need to open it to clean cat hair out of the mousewheel.

I wrote a blogpost about making AMD Zen3(+)-based Lenovo IdeaPads work with Linux (they have an annoying suspend/s2idle-related bug disabling the keyboard until rebooting).

It also has a section about creating ACPI fake-devices to work around "Could not resolve symbol [...], AE_NOT_FOUND" ACPI errors.

But the alternative is to use something Chromium-based, which would make Google's domination of web technology absolute - and Google is 100x more evil than Mozilla ever could be.

RAM, SSDs and GPUs, but potentially more parts in the near future) getting a lot more expensive in addition to Windows 11 being absolute dogshit (and many people already preferring smartphones/tablets and tech giants preferring more closed platforms anyway) might be a real threat to PC hardware (incl. laptops) in the consumer market 😬

Does anyone have a collection of .dds (and maybe also .ktx and/or .ktx2) textures I could use to test my texture viewer (https://github.com/DanielGibson/texview)?

For DDS I only found test textures from GLI and unfortunately many of them are invalid/broken :-/
For KTX(2) I have the ones from libktx (and the broken ones from GLI).

To be on the safe side, I made her password soup instead.

I wrote a cross-platform open source texture viewer. It's still WIP, but already supports 2D textures and cubemaps in DDS, KTX and KTX2 formats and normal image files that are supported by stb_image (JPG, PNG, BMP, TGA, ...).
It allows viewing mipmap levels, also next to each other (for 2D textures).
All in a single small (<3MB) executable.

Now I just to write ffmpeg scripts to first record it losslessly as mkv with FFV1 video and FLAC audio and then convert that to mp4 with h264, with some filters for deinterlacing and denoising

Dec 5: Ok, recording mostly works, but I still have to find better settings for the h264 encoder.
Also: Turns out this "Telefunken CAMRECORDER 890 MOVIE" is a licensed clone of the JVC GR-C1, aka the "Marty Cam" from Back To The Future 😎

December 4th (how it started): I'm finally gonna digitalize those 25-40 year old family videos on VHS-C!
I have the old camera and a cheap USB videoconverter, and even an old mixing desk thingy from Hama that allows color correction and such in between, let's go!

Nice, the camera still works and xawtv shows video and plays audio, I have a working setup! Video quality is kinda shit, but that's probably to be expected.
