why is the #TFL Website so utterly bad??
I'm about ready to start early work on a new #game doing some exploratory #gamedev work and of course agonising over what engine to choose.
I had a brief look at Unreal, then back to look at godot. But all the while thinking about coding my game and thinking about in-memory maps and events and networking I keep coming back to the feeling that I'd have to wade through a lot of learning in these big engines.
I've found myself contemplating doing it all from scratch in #SDL2 or maybe #raylib
Thoughts? I've got years of general cross-platform c/c++ experience. Will godot or unreal etc really help me?
I am feeling quite miserable about the future of my industry (computer programming, free software, open protocol+crypto standards)
when I remember my first steps into computers i recall the huge fun, creativity and discovery and a fantastic sense of intrinsic achievement when i made a new thing work or made a jump in understanding.
what us making me feel gloomy now is anyone starting out today wont feel a lot of that, and if they do they still wont be heading for a career containing those feelings if contemporary cleptocracy-driven AI continues its growth into everything.
for the last few years so many things have been obduscated behind huge frameworks that few fully understand, if that wasnt difficult enough, more things now will be cloaked behind some badly written AI prompt for a non-determisitc closed model machine. Its almost worse than a compiler service you are locked into.
There seems to be no room for understanding any more.

If I'm reading the disclosure correctly, the issue is:
- Windows Notepad is more than just a plain text editor now.
- In particular, it has a markdown preview feature, including clickable links.
- But, it doesn't have full web browser security processes for what to do if you click on a link with a protocol that triggers a local application. It gets treated as if the user was directly running that application.
So, don't open strange files & then click links. (And update Windows regularly.)
What the actuall #mozilla fuck? https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/27/mozilla-building-an-ai-rebel-alliance-to-take-on-openai-anthropic-.html
They want to piss away $1.4bn on an AI project??? Holy shit if they have $1.4bn then OMFG that could sustain good, free and fair mozilla for many decades JFC
Inspired by the incredible artwork of @davidrevoy I got myself a graphics tablet and installed #Krita aiming to revive my own creatibity.
I have no art of my own to show for it yet, ... but while I was away cooking dinner my young artist daughter took up the stylus and produced this in about 5 minutes!
Andrew should get the firing squad, its only fitting.
Congrats to The Guardian on hiring Doctorow to explain enshittification to the non-tech masses.
