I got caught up in a thing and haven't started making lunch yet. I'll be slightly late today.

This happened because my other shows are in awkward spots. They were in an awkward spot when I live tooted Due South and they remained in awkward spots because I'm watching Xena (something which is mostly new for me), MacGyver (which I do sometimes live toot), and another show I won't live toot for unrelated reasons.

I will try to remember to watch at least one episode from one of the following before next Monday: X-Files, Babylon 5, Sliders, Supernatural, Earth 2, and Farscape. I have occasionally tried to be extra good and watch more than one of the awkward shows and then found myself in the opposite problem of too many options on a Monday.

I'm out of live tootable Pretender because I'm onto the two part series finale. I hate live tooting two-parters of hour-long format shows because it commits me to watching the same show two mondays in a row.

RE: https://sakurajima.social/notes/as904vu3w7

On most Mondays, I live toot an episode of a TV show at 1PM EDT (UTC-4, roughly an hour from now). Of this episode, TMDB says in part:

The Enterprise crew investigates the disappearance of a ship's crew on a planet that is a modern version of the Roman Empire.

Villain: Too many people around. We'll handle her at the park.

Me: Because parks are famously a place where people don't go?

The secondary villain is too naive to make it through this episode alive unless he's rescued by one of the non-villain characters. Yep, here comes the heel turn from the heel and MacGyver and his special guest character incidentally rescued the secondary villain.

Characters on MacGyver: It's just her and her crazy dog.

Dog: Spends episode doing normal dog stuff given the circumstances

Me: Needed an edit pass.

According to wikipedia (as of whenever my Kiwix archive was taken), pinku eiga is / was considered pornographic.

Given how much historical, western pornography I've watched, I don't think it's unfair for me to suggest that wasn't anything I would consider pornographic. For reasons that aren't related to the fact that any full nudity was blocked out.

Granted, it's the only pinku eiga I've seen and I'm not making any broader statements.

Apparently, this is part of an entire genre / movement of movies (Pinku eiga) I know nothing about so I might be missing something pivotal. Kind of reminds me of watching my first and second giallo on accident.

On the other hand, I don't see myself watching another one on the strengths of this one.

It's so weird watching movies where people are smoking. I mean it was definitely a thing for a lot of my life but I'm so used to not seeing it any more that when a movie is new to me and someone's smoking, it throws me off.

Glad I'm not live tooting. Some of the required content notes would have basically been describing the entire problem. Yuck.

I was too curious. IMDB says it's a drama, not a documentary. Still not live tooting on account of needing to focus on the screen to read the subtitles since it's my first watch.

I've got my doubts about this being a documentary. The way they shot the band they just showed would have required filming the song twice.

Two women are sharing a hotdog in the same way Lady and the Tramp finished up that spaghetti.

Back to not live tooting. I just couldn't help myself on those two parts.

I'm watching what's supposed to be a documentary called Red Violation. I generally won't live toot movies I haven't seen which are in a language I don't speak (in this case Japanese) nor do I usually live toot documentaries at all.

Kind of an odd setup for a documentary so I might chat about that a bit. If it's a documentary, it's presented in a very "we're not going to tell you what's going on" way so far.

The official Star Trek account on Youtube did a poll asking which (of the first four) captain(s) would be the worst person to go on a road trip with.

That's not what this poll is about, though.

IMDB says it was filmed in Vancouver, BC. However, the next episode was also filmed in Vancouver but in a different spot. Starting to get the picture that MacGyver was filmed mainly in BC. :blobfoxlaugh:

For unknown reasons, MacGyver has been wearing a tie since he came to London.

The thing I most remember about this episode is MacGyver's houseboat being put out to sea and that was like a two minute gag or something.

Due to the lack of adequate fan wikis, I may never know where this episode was actually shot.

I'm betting LA with most of the actors having not yet finished their time at Dick Van Dyke's School of English Accents.

I'm pretty sure "Chartered Airplane" doesn't usually include you renting the plane and piloting it yourself.

Villain: I've seen your resume. You're far too dangerous to leave alive.

MacGyver: Oh, shit. You're going to shoot me? I'm allergic to bullets.

Villain: Don't be so pedestrian. I'm going to kill you with an 800 year old Rube Goldberg machine.

MacGyver: You're going to stick around and watch me die?

Villain: I only have time for some witty repartee. \*puns\*

MacGyver: That wasn't witty repartee. That was a half-assed pun.

Villain: Mock my puns one more time and I will kill you directly.

MacGyver: Nope. Never mind. See you later, villain.

Villain: Later?

Villain: You know ... once we both go to ... heaven?

Jadzia, Dean, and Audrey are heading toward the next victim.

Gwen poked her phone, looking for leads.

"Um," Tenchi laughed nervously.

She looked up from her phone.

"We're supposed to be working together."

"Sure. It's hard for two people to work on one phone. If you want, I can have a phone delivered here for you in the next hour or two."

"Maybe? What are you looking into?"

"I've hacked a few companies that might have the resources to do multi-verse level science."

"Oh, wow. That's ..." Tenchi blinked a few times. "Not something I would have thought of."

What should Gwen do?

In today's episode, Usagi gets her own Mission With Haruka Sailor Uranus. She not only manages to get the information the rest of the guardians needed but she also sussed out who Sailor Uranus is despite everyone else failing to do the same.

Kind of a fun episode.

Next episode is a Rei episode.

This isn't an episode I'd use to start anyone off on Due South. It's a good episode but the heart of the episode is a character study on Ray Vecchio. As I mentioned in my intro, Ray is an amoral man. He likes being a cop because it suits him. He sees bending the rules (or breaking them) as a prerogative he can get away with and, yet, his best friend is a man who bends over backward to obey the rules even to the point of turning himself and the others in if they played low stakes poker with real cash.

Despite these almost opposite personalities, the two men are drawn to each other. The Kirk and Spock of it all is that Benton Fraser is Ray's best friend and Ray is Fraser's best friend. He's the one who calls Benton 'Benny.' Benton is unwilling to tell the others his failed love story but he will tell it to Ray. Finding Ray slept through it, he has to sit through Ray repeatedly telling Benny that he wouldn't understand. Meanwhile, Benny gently helps Ray get the woman of his dreams. Or find that he can't possibly get her as the case may be.

There are a lot of things that are used as filler in this story. Largely because it's not Benny and Ray's story. It's Ray's story and Benny's just in it. Just like the comedy duo are in it and the characters discussing philosophy of romance and actual failed romances are in it.

The episode has an interesting perspective. It shows that Ray and basically every other character in the show is completely ridiculous when it comes to the subject of love. It covers a lot of the cliches that stand up comedians would have been talking about at the time but it doesn't treat any of those theories as being serious or meaningful.

In a way, I think the episode is doing something another show wouldn't do this way at all. Romantic love is mysterious and unknowable except experientially. Also, everyone is ridiculous. (Me stating what I think its position is. Not my own on the "everyone is ridiculous" part.)

Due South has a lot of weird episodes. Its very premise is weird. This is one of the weirder ones in its own way.

The comedy duo and the civilian worker stall for screen time. The lieutenant reads Ray a report from the ATF lady that praises Ray’s police work.

Ray takes that as a sign. Benny has already found her hotel and Ray goes after her. He catches her just before she gets into a cab.

“That kiss meant something.”

“Yeah, step closer so I can hit you.”

He asks why she didn’t report him.

She says who needs the paperwork.

They share another kiss and she rides her can away. She gives him one last look which the doorman sees.

In a voice over, Ray and Benny talk about how all this is perfect for them and when it’s the right time they’ll get back together.

Benny looks at a faded black and white Polaroid of his ex.
