My employer @tibhannover is looking for a Linux sysadmin with containerization and CI/CD expertise and reasonable fluency in German and English. Details: https://www.tib.eu/en/tib/careers-and-apprenticeships/vacancies/details/stellenausschreibung-nr-42-2026

Among other responsibilities, you'd be working closely with SHIELD, the @tibosl project I'm part of (see https://shield.tib.eu), and potentially – if you want – @SafeguardingResearch.

Job's in #Hannover, with partial remote work options. Application deadline is Nov 1.

Yep, here's my presentation at Berlin FediDay 2026, where I talked about SciOp and its federation plans. 🙂

That was a really nice environment and audience for this exchange. Good Q&A too. I'm looking forward to the recording of the “research on the fediverse” panel at the end of the session.

Berlin #FediDay post-closing early dinner with @sabrinkmann @lavaeolus @Profpatsch @rasos 🙂 Making some more new friends at the end

RE: https://fedihum.org/@lavaeolus/117259075960347801

I am apparently awful at advertising my own events in advance, but yeah, this is a thing that happened today and it seems there's going to be a published recording relatively soon.

#FediDay

Had a pretty calm day 1 of Berlin #FediDay, got to meet @lavaeolus, @mkljczk, @liaizon, @_elena and @tommi and probably some people I've forgotten. 🙂

Earlier today I attended the #ActivityPub Trust & Safety Taskforce meeting!

https://github.com/swicg/activitypub-trust-and-safety/blob/main/meetings/2026-08-19-interim-taskforce-meeting.md

It was my first time popping by, but I had a specific reason, namely a call to work on a specification for interaction controls based on various existing work. You may remember that I tried this before, earlier in the year, and it stalled due to a lack of time. So this time around I'm doing it during my work hours. Thanks @Lambo! 😉

Here's how I'm trying to get started: https://github.com/swicg/activitypub-trust-and-safety/issues/159#issuecomment-5348012095

Is anyone talking about how the average quality of bibliographies in published academic articles is below the floor? Or is that just my field?

I was reading a paper earlier, thought to follow a reference, and noticed all the web links in the reference list got… truncated, somehow. None of them work.

Elsewhere I've seen missing author names, wrong titles, missing DOIs, randomized capitalization, the list goes on.

No, “author name + ResearchGate link” is not a journal article citation, wtf. 😬

Sharing this new academic conference from the EUSSET mailing list because I think it sounds really cool:

International Conference on Innovation in
Rural Regions (ICIRR), 13-15 September 2026 in Siegen, Germany – https://icirr.wineme.wiwi.uni-siegen.de/

Could be something for (parts of) my #HCI and #CSCW research bubble. The submission phase is already done, it's all about registering and attending now! 🙂 It's a first time event, but I know the organizers and it's legit.

I will be at @berlinfediday in September, presenting ongoing work around SciOp (https://sciop.net). 😀

The presentation will focus on ActivityPub-related aspects of the project, but there are many more facets to it.

This will be my first public speaking appearance representing @tibosl. 🙂

RE: https://ecscw.eusset.eu/2026/2026/07/04/ecscw-2026-has-ended/

.. and I basically collapsed and slept 11 hours. 😴

Waiting for a few late payments and invoices to balance the books, having a handful of follow-on email conversations, then the “Julian organizes a conference” chapter can be over, at least for a while.

Re-sharing a small open source project I just finished polishing: PoseViz, my browser-based pose recording data visualizer/player.

https://fietkau.software/poseviz

When I left my previous employer, we discussed what would remain there and what I would take with me. PoseViz is one of our bespoke research tools now in my private custody. I put a bit of effort into making it presentable and fun to play with. Try opening some of the different demo recordings! 🙂

Fun personal announcement: I'm changing jobs! 🙂

Starting in June, I'll be working at @tibhannover with @Lambo and team as a Research Software Engineer.

The job posting is still online, so you can see here what I'll be up to: https://www.tib.eu/en/tib/careers-and-apprenticeships/vacancies/details/stellenausschreibung-nr-7-2026

Basically it's about research data infrastructure, particularly integrating SciOp (https://sciop.net) at TIB. It's exciting stuff, I'm looking forward to it, and I believe I will be working with fun people in- and outside of TIB itself! 😄

RE: https://mastodon.social/@bagder/116359048796181736

Could be potentially nice for fediverse server testing, as more implementations make the jump to final RFC 9421 HTTP signatures.

On the flip side, ever more complex curl invocations (here: Accept header plus signature fields plus key file, presumably) suggest use of more specialized CLI tools, such as provided by @fedify, or at least scripts/aliases.

Speaking of RFC 9421, which notable fediverse implementations can't handle it yet? Anyone keeping track?

#ActivityPub #FediDev #RFC9421

As good a day as any to remember that in the little browser game I made with @misnina in 2024, you can type “transrights” while on the title screen to unlock a custom feather. 🏳️‍⚧️

My ongoing #ActivityPub projects in order of priority, for anyone waiting for something:

– Interaction policy / reply controls FEP: highest priority, stalled for the past few weeks due to other responsibilities
– @encyclia: probably migrating from Deno+Fresh to Node+Hono for @fedify 2.0, boring infra work
– Updating @fedidevs starter packs for compatibility with @loops and @Mastodon packs: on warm hold, will get to it, but vainly hoping someone will write a Python lib for it before I have to 🙃

Seems as good a day as any to thank @hongminhee and team for the exemplary work on @fedify. Following Fedify's big 2.0 release, my two largest interoperability pain points in @encyclia can be fixed. 🙂

https://github.com/fedify-dev/fedify/issues/473 means that people using @gotosocial will finally be able to follow @encyclia accounts soon (whenever I finish the upgrade).

https://github.com/fedify-dev/fedify/issues/472 will let me (and others) handle more account resolution edge cases and reduce failure mode traffic after Fedify 2.1 is out.

How about that, my current employer @unibwm just launched a @peertube test server. 😮

They said it's for testing and not to expect permanence (for now), but they didn't say anything about secrecy, so... here's a video I made to present @encyclia last year: https://tube.forge.unibw.de/w/bXQoPktx2XoE8Da4gvoJqP If you wanna help them test the server, feel free to take a look!

RE: https://hci.social/@amyjko/116171749536480692

This keynote by @amyjko reminds us educators (in computer science and beyond) of our mission while also offering perspectives to guide and expand it.

To my dismay I have to postpone watching it in full until I can set aside an hour (plus likely some time to digest), but after skimming through the video I feel comfortable sharing and recommending it.
