Human-caused global warming / climate change has been known since the 1970s (I remember conversations about this at university). But even most though people in most countries(*) believe in climate change, only half believe it's human-caused. 🤯
(*) The US is an outlier in how few people believe in climate change.
You may have heard that Peter Neumann passed away yesterday at the age of 93.
I cannot do his memory and legacy justice here, but I will say that his work (and friendship and support) influenced almost everything I've worked on. He was one of the first computer scientists to confront (well before it was popular to do so) the fact that computers and software are unreliable in both theory and practice.
Most of my mentions for the last day have been from strangers telling me “You aren’t being shouty enough!!! Everyone should shouty about everything!! Stop trying to explain things and join the shouting!”
Sorry. If everything is required to be a crisis, we can’t tell where to focus.

"Ptolemaic code" describes most software that I've seen. "Bricollage" describes a lot of the rest.
I still wear a mask to class, on trains and planes, and when in crowded indoor spaces, because I am human who relies on a human body, and am addicted to regular respiration.

@jautero Nonetheless, the confusion has caused harm among users who lack your detailed understanding of its semantics, and in my opinion, it's useful to point this out. So I have, and will continue to do so.
