It turns out that adding more stops to where people go brings up ridership! LA metro is still on track to finish the D line extension by next fall, then there's the K line extensions, one day the LAX people mover might run so then its actually possible to take the train to/from the airport, SGV light rail, and etc. In the works. A million people every week already take transit, and one day LA might actually lose its reputation as a car-only city.

[Typing this out on phone so numbers are rounded]
weekly ridership: 1m (+4.4%)
(all below are monthly totals of boardings)
bus ridership: 20m (+1.8%)
Rail ridership: 6.7m (+12.4%)
A line: 2.1m (+14.3%)
E line: 1.5m (+10%)
B line: 1.3m (+4.5%)
D line: 774k (+92.7%)
C line: 500k (-0.9%)
K line: 242k (+2.2%)

@jonny wait people want viable alterative to driving? Are you sure? That doesn't seem right; hold on while I consult the lobbyists for the car and oil companies.

@jonny the one time I was in LA (for #code4lib 2017) I took buses ($1 for a ride) and rode a bike (~$25/day). Oh well, I did share a Lyft and was a passenger in one of the local attendees. There are so many cars indeed, but I can attest other means of transportation do exist!
