  @ug @netbsd @prahou i totally wanna snipe @joe into working on the init system. i wonder what @navi thinks about BSDs and whether openrc would be aligned with netbsd's goals (navi is anti-LLM too, i just mean in abstract terms of software architecture)

  @ug @netbsd @prahou @joe @navi really cool article https://blog.pr4tt.com/2016/02/02/BSD-virtual-memory/ my literally insane ideas about transactional parallelizable i/o and persistence might require a separate kernel but hurd and netbsd would be where i'd try to prototype things first

  openrc was originally developed for gentoo, but by a netbsd developer, so, probably? i think so
  
  my only nit with bsds is the "whole base system is one single mostly interconnected project/repo", but otherwise, seems nice, and openrc does it's best to support a couple including netbsd, though i'm not aware of any openrc users running it on netbsd atm

  @hipsterelectron my ambitions for an init system are mainly just "boot and halt as fast as possible". i am interested in drew devault's alpinebsd project, which is s6-based, since apk is nicer and a bit more amenable to reproducible offline configurations than pkgsrc
