I feel like the folks I see in my timeline, asking about wayland support; and wondering if they can bring their steam games... need to adjust their expectations as they plunge into alternate operating system land.
Contemplating the mindset that computers have always been largely a negative on society; just certain historical eddies in the current like FLOSS mitigated specific aspects of the damage for a little while.
Im sure there are other compelling reasons to do this.
BUT the news the linux kernel is removing the "Assisted-By" line for commits with LLM-code reads to me, like folks want to make it harder to excise that code later.

SO... livestreaming an execution is LIKELY a violation of the UN "Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment" of which the US is a signatory.
I wish that would... amount to something. #uspol
Bouncing off the "Introducing Playground" video that cwebber shared. https://social.coop/@cwebber/117406111281812894
What's clear here to me, is how this new videogame development process is being framed.
If you watch the video, there isn't any actual sense that it's enabling a new generation of storytellers; it's not depicting a process that involves actual creative expression.
It's all framed as one attention economy dopamine roller coaster that can be mined of bite sized meme-able moments.
No one could watch this trailer and imagine someone might use this process to build a game that emotionally touches someone, or challenges someone. It reduces an actual art form, to jangling keys in front of a child to distract them.
The whole attitude is "To hell with art." Who cares if this slop might cannibalize actual creative expressions, with intent, meaning or narrative? #NeverAI #AntiAI #Videogames
We're rapidly moving into a post-FLOSS world.
In part because LLMs are poised to scrub the licenses off of code.
AND in part because LLM generated code reproduces near-verbatim code from other #FLOSS projects, without attribution or respect to copyleft.
But mostly because FLOSS developers can't be bothered not to use the proprietary labor saving devices, built from the stolen labor of other FLOSS developers.
IF FLOSS developers don't care about the stolen labor, and disrespected licenses; and the copyright concerns, no one will. #AntiAI #NoAI
Curious about folks who switched desktop environments or operating systems, due to LLM-code infestation. Where did you land and why?
Im on my own journey there; but im curious about anyone else out there, who is changing up there stack over this, and what choices theyve ended up making.
I really do think the best way to think about LLM code in your stack; is as a pollutant being dumped by mega-corporations and their sycophants into the #FLOSS ecosystem.
It's going to take a lot of fighting over a long time, to get the ecosystem clean again. It's sad, it's worth stopping and mourning for a bit. But we have to roll up our sleeves too.
Don't think in terms of "oh god it's everywhere, there is nothing I can do to avoid it." Figure out small proactive steps you can take, that help the situation incrementally. #AntiAI
The implicit promise of FLOSS, is that users should care about how their software is put together.
ALSO FLOSS DEVELOPERS USING LLMS: Stop caring about how your software is put together.
According to two of the sources, armed members of the US military were preparing to board the ship. Military planes were in the air, one of those sources and another source familiar with the incident said.
It was only just before the planned operation that officials dug deeper into the report put together by a special operations command analyst and found it had been generated with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) — and that a chatbot the analyst had used inaccurately identified the material the ship was carrying.
MAYBE we could just not USE LLMs for some things? You know; before we "wargames" ourselves into a world war. #AntiAI

Looking for recommendations for youtube or peertube #retrocomputing creators, who don't fill their content with LLM shit; and are not secret republicans? Thanks. #BoostsWelcome
Boosts appreciated. #videogames #gamedev #nintendo #xbox #playstation #steamdeck
Anyone know of a list of #Videogame Developers who have pledged #NoAI ? Similar to the Starlight Network No AI software list ? #videogames #antiAI
The people who want to make rocks that think; are making normal math-rocks too expensive. They are also making rocks lie all the time. AND im so mad about it every day, because ive been a professional rock toucher for most of my life; and I weirdly care deeply for the math that rocks can do.
When Be Inc folded up I continued to run #BeOS longer than most of my friends. AND when I threw in the towel I bounced around a lot. I tried going back to DOS for a couple months. I ran Gentoo #Linux for a while. Did a stint on Mac OS X on a PPC Mac I rescued at a surplus sale, and finally settled on Debian Linux for a few years.
I settled on #FLOSS OSes like Linux because I wanted something that wasn't going to die like BeOS did, or focus shift away from the user like Be Inc had. I figured FLOSS would always "live" as long as developers were interested in it.
Ive done a few stints with NetBSD and FreeBSD and have distro hopped a fair bit these past five years, feeling increasingly unhappy.
Its clear to me I was right about FLOSS's lifespan. But I failed to realize I think, that it can still loose it's soul.
One of my podcasts I listened to yesterday made a very good point that bears repeating.
At no previous time, in human history have we ever mistook the patron for the artist.
The one commissioning the work is not making the art and we would never think to call them an artist.
AI prompts are much more similar to what one does when one commissions a work, than it is to the actual act of creating a work. #AntiAI
My problem with banning kids from corporate social media, is that I kinda think adults should be banned too? AND banning it just for kids, is just a convenient way of ignoring and failing to address the horrible corrosion happening at all levels of modern society?
Booting up Haiku, and I need to test if the sound is working, so I immediately dial up "5038" by the Cotton Squares as per tradition. #BeOS #HaikuOS https://archive.org/details/TheCottonSquares
FIND yourself a a linux distribution or BSD that does reject AI; use it and donate to it.
If you can't move your daily driver move a secondary machine. Tinker with it, fit it into your life where it makes sense.
YEAH the linux kernel has slop. Most programming languages have slop. Most desktop environments have slop, you will have dependencies that are still slop. This is a big problem; there is no magic off switch to fixing this overnight.
We are in the early days of dealing with a contaminate that polluters are actively dumping into our digital environment.
It is going to take a long time before anyone can truly be slop free.
But support, and invest in the folks doing that hard work which will build a slop free future.
