Our hotel is in Kakegawa, near Shizuoka City. It was the cheapest one Daikon could find, but because we're out of Kanto it is still a bigger room than you'd get from a much more expensive place in Tokyo lol. But the downside is that the room we're in obviously used to be a smoking room that later got converted to non-smoking, and the toilet/bathroom REEKS because the ventilation is poor :neofox_melt_3: Swings and roundabouts lol
Currently at a service area in Ashigara. It is surprisingly chilly haha, we did not pack any long-sleeved shirts and are now paying the price :neofox_boop_nervous: Then again this is pretty high-altitude so it shouldn't be this cold in Shizuoka City or Gifu... I hope...
We are on the road to Shizuoka City, where we'll spend the night before heading to Kakamigahara in Gifu tomorrow morning
Bought vending machine "latte," in scare quotes, because it doesn't actually contain coffee. It's supposedly made with chickpeas and chicory, but tbh it's too overwhelmingly milky and sweet to make anything out. I'm not a fan lol
An emu for your troubles. The Flinders Ranges is very colourful at the moment.

Okay I guess that was not the predicted epicenter that I saw but the epicenter of a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that DID strike at around the time the alarm went off... but it only ended up shaking Hakodate (and only shindo-1)...? Am I understanding this correctly lol
Whatever. I am knocking furiously on wood and grateful that this was the worst of it (KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK)
Phone earthquake alarm went off again, but then immediately afterwards on TV they announced that the emergency alert has been lifted so, maybe this was all an error...??
The earthquake alarm went off on my phone, went to turn on the TV to see earthquake info... and it hasn't hit yet? Also the predicted epicenter is north of Hokkaido, but the earthquake alarm is for like all of Hokkaido+Honshu. The alarm came a while ago now (I don't remember exact time but at least 5min) so, hmm??
I forgot to take a picture (d'oh) but man... I made a REALLY good miso soup with sweet potato and pork tonight. Daikon ate most of it (I had a late lunch so I didn't have room for seconds lol) but I'm just sitting here thinking about it... I might need to make it again soon...
Had a very productive day today, and then I came home and checked my mail and found a postcard!! Thank you to the sender (you know who you are ehehe), please I need more rail map postcards, look at how good this is
here's another #fediZineFest2026 preview!
Mariah Currey says:
> I make supernatural slice of life and romance comics. Most of them also have some horror elements. The shorter ones I have available in digital and printed zine formats. Some of them are nsfw. Most of them are vampire related, though I also have some werewolf and fae comics. For the physical zine, if nsfw is okay (ed. note: it is) I would be most interested in sending in Knotted by my Hot Werewolf Husband (fluffy smut of a werewolf/fae husband wife duo having sex in the woods). If sfw is better, I could do Our Grand Illusion (lesbian vampire retelling of Phantom of the Opera), Modern Ghouls (vampire bffs slice of life), or Besotted by a Maniac Goblin Nightmare Girl (Hot Werewolf Husband prequel of how they met). I these would also be my picks for digital. They're all on my itchio if you'd like to check out the listings for more info and art: https://rainydaymariah.itch.io
Jim @worshipthesquid plans:
> Something with ink pen drawings that will be either:
- solo ttrpg companion, or
- nature sketches and some local plants I like
Zoyander @zoy is thinking about:
> Photocopy collage zine on the topic of precarious embodiment, environment, and attachment. Source material includes 1980s Shipping industry magazines, Little White Lies, midcentury childrens novels, the Kinsey reports, various other odds and ends. I'll provide a digital scan as well as physical copies.
