Anyone tried #teaching #Zig as a first-ish low-level language to beginners? :moomin_hmm:
If so, what was your experience?

The concept of "distributors" for art is weird. I learned about this from the TADC screening. Basically, the cinema couldn't just make a deal with the studio, they had to find a distributor who would distribute it in the country.
And like... why? Why can't they just make a deal with the cinema, we pay the cinema, some of the money goes to them, some goes to the artist, everyone's happy.

Hey, Gamers! What are some educational games that are actually fun?
Like, ones that you would play even if you weren't trapped in a classroom where your only choices were to play some Edutainment Content ™and draw cool scribbles on a piece of paper?

Well. Just got a company wide email that we must attend a mandatory presentation on coding with LLMs and they linked a 5 hour DHH interview as an "appetizer".
It's decided that I'll be doing a professional bike mechanic course on weekends come next fall.
I'll write a proper job search post later, but until then... anyone I know looking for a jack of all trades programmer?

Pre-ordered the new #CuteDoor album because she's a really cool weird underrated experimental artist. :neofox_uwu:
Maybe should have waited for #Bandcamp Friday, ah well. I was afraid I'd forget to do it before the album release.

Helping @Daffodil learn #HTML, looking at #Neocities for inspiration. I joke that we should be listening to #Ninajirachi while doing this, when I notice in my inbox: new #DJDave album!
Truly a blessed omen. :neofox_uwu:

I'm not breaking the "no more bikes!" rule if I just repair my existing bikes. :flan_evil:

Saw a kitten chase an RC car today. Then we all got to pet it. :neofox_uwu:

#TIL that #GitHub still doesn't have #IPv6 and this causes issues in countries like Brazil.

Another good reason to choose literally any other #git forge. :neofox_sip:

Really cool to see this in the #borgmatic docs. :neofox_uwu:

Was gonna play #Minecraft with partner and her nephew, but she didn't have a license, so we tried #Luanti instead. It ended up being a great choice, we had a lot of fun on a public skyblock server. :neofox_uwu:
Phone support could be better though, we couldn't figure out what the equivalent of <shift> is, nor how to right click on items. Still, the kid liked it, so the experiment was a success. :moomin_yay:

Interesting (if a bit sweary) critique of #RISCV . Quoting from the very end of it:
"Before you get your megaphone to shout about "openness", please note that the openness of the RISC-V spec is not relevant here at all, because an open spec does not magically materialize a well-designed out-of-order core for you for free. And if someone were to design a good out-of-order core, they would not be giving it away for free."

This is some damn powerful writing about how infectious hate can be when you are hated.

BTW, one of my other major gripes with custom GUI frameworks is exactly this. I don't care how cool your SDF based font rendering is Zed, why is the default text so goddamn small? Why is there no global font scale setting?

Top secret #programming tip that they won't teach you at uni:
If you can't read the text on your screen, you can just increase the font size. Most operating systems have easily accessible global font size settings.
Your spine and eyes will thank you for not leaning forward to squint at the tiny default xterm text.

This is your irregular reminder that if you are working on a new UI system and it isn't a toy just for yourself, then you should include accessibility in its design. Who knows, you might be designing it for your future self. You are only ever one accident away from becoming disabled.

This recent blog post by Drew DeVault reminded me of that #TheLonesomeWest performance again.
There was something... hideously shameful in laughing along with rest of the audience at the conflict on stage. Maybe not initially, but certainly by the second act. Well, I suppose no one was laughing during the final confrontation.
I'm not sure what I'm trying to say with this. I guess go watch The Lonesome West in a nearby theater if you have the chance. Maybe it will change your mind about how you approach some conflicts in your life. Or how you react to conflict in other people's lives.
