Income from investments should arguably be taxed at a higher rate than income from productive, paid work, and the very least that Healey should do is increase CGT to match.

Seeing the near-perpetual pro-Palestine protests across the West, I can't help wondering if Western govts have ever been quite this out of touch with their electorates....

Somewhat ironically, the American quisling quoted below is behind a good old American paywall so you can't read it.....
Land of the rent-seeker.
....and yes, I know that humans don't have biological races, but that only elevates this to entirely new levels of idiocy and arrogance.

It's funny that the only people who ever believe in this 'master race' bollocks always think that their race is the master.
No one ever seems to say, "See those guys over there? They're the Master Race they are".....
Sounds like Meta may be building a universal face database.
Why do I think this?
Well, because a Meta spokesperson has told WIRED,
"One decision we can be clear about—we are not building a universal face database.”

Sensible decision.
Of course, if the UK's trains and rail network were operated by a single, citizen-owned and publicly-accountable body, then this sort of thing would be routine.
We could call it something like 'British Rail'.

"Compiled by a team of historians across three UK universities over four years, the Register identifies some of the roughly 13,000 men and women, based in Britain, who financed the violent transportation of 3.2 million enslaved African men, women, and children for almost two and half centuries. It is the first to gather biographical information on all known investors in the trafficking."

Maybe if the Westminsterati in (devolved) London allowed a little bit of the money they throw at London vanity projects to be spent elsewhere in the country then the cities of the Midlands and North might be able to attract more visitors?
Better still, let non-London England or the English regions devolve completely from Westminster like they devolved their precious London.
It would be nice to see the entire sales, marketing and PR industry banned as a public nuisance.
Such a move would likely make political elections much more representative too.

"Call us optimists, call us dreamers, call us whatever the hell you want but we're betting on people and we like those odds. The future is for everyone."
If it's OK with everyone, I'll continue to call them parasites.

"Meta funneled $2 billion through nonprofit shells to push phone age verification laws
Proposed laws mandate OS-level APIs creating permanent identity tracking in every device
Age verification bills target Apple and Google while exempting Meta’s social platforms"

"Hydration breaks
There will be a three-minute hydration break in each half in every match.
The break will be taken around the halfway mark of each half (22nd minute)."
This is just an excuse to impose four quarters on international football to satisfy greedy advertisers and the marketing industry.
Burnham and Starmer have both now come out to criticise the odious Tony Blair, albeit gently, because they know that while the majority of the UK left despises the Hague-dodging grifter with a passion usually reserved for Thatcher, there are still some important centrist people who think he's a liberal Messiah.
Personally I hope the good people of Makerfield ditch greasy Labour and dodgy Reform and elect the Greens instead....
Strange to think that the UK used to have decent pensions, earlier retirement, affordable housing, publicly-owned infrastructure and utilities, free higher education, fair wages and affordable housing.
We swapped the lot for a handful of billionaires and Blair was on the spot to make it happen.

The USA now considers it a national security issue if foreign countries DON'T permit free cross-border data transfers and don't make use of US cloud services for sensitive information.
The UK is fully compliant with America's wish to have access to its data, and the UK govt's continued refusal to drop US cloud services and data companies like Palantir and Oracle effectively makes the UK a client state.

Once again we see pensioners protesting issues that the working population can't afford to protest for fear of losing their livelihoods.
What would be a good word to describe a country where this happens?
This looks like the EU is finally offering an alternative suite of office tools to replace US corporate offerings from Google and Microsoft.
Edit: this is *not* an EU-backed programme, but an EU-based company offering an EU-hosted and owned office alternative to Microsoft/GCP providing migration and infrastructure services.
