    Your mental health deserves a place in your feed too.

    Our digital lives are an important part of our mental wellbeing.

    This World Mental Health Day, let’s take a moment to think about how our digital lives affect us.

    A few simple steps can help:
    🔸 Limit screen time
    🔸 Turn off non-essential notifications
    🔸 Take a break from screens before bed
    🔸 Unfollow content that makes you feel anxious or pressured

    Our mental health also starts on the screen. More: link.europa.eu/vJdpDN

    @EUCommission content such as news about every new way to ruin the internet the eu has come up with, so that we couldn't fight it until it's too late? nice try

    @EUCommission *gets really worked up over this somehow and writes a long salty ranty post about how it's all the EU/EC's fault or something, creating negative content for others while having negative feelings myself doing the complete opposite of actions that benefit good mental health when I could be having a nice autumn walk or enjoying a nice slow weekend breakfast or whatever* :dragon_uwu:

    @EUCommission great advice, except the last one. On most social medie platforms outside of the fediverse you can't just "Unfollow content that makes you feel anxious or pressured". There is little to no control over your feed on Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok. The advice should probably be to delete your account on those platforms. 🚮

    @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu

    Do you know what hasn't been great for my mental health lately? The news about the european commision pushing for mass surveilance, age checks, AI and censorship.

    Do you want us to turn off screens and notifications so you can do whatever you want without us noticing before it's too late?

    @EUCommission you are actively causing mental health issues by giving #bigtech free rein over our private data with your #deregulation initiatives and implementing a #surveillancecapitalism #dystopia with #chatcontrol - what effect do you think state surveillance shelled out to despicable private companies has on the population's mental health?

    Please stop this performative virtue-signalling - your policies and initiatives clearly show your pathological disdain for the entire #eu electorate.

    @EUCommission Certainly doesn't help that the eu wants to poke a giant security hole to my personal information like messages (chat control) or ids (age verification)... Why is it a bad idea? Look at Denmark who just leaked info about basically everyone living there... yeah...

    @EUCommission this is a well meant post, but i guess it strucks a nerve if you just adress the citizens to take actions while the EU actually CAN change things for the good ...

    To some people it nicht look a bit like BP talking about the Individualität/personal co2-footprint instead of take actions, even though I think, this is different.

    I know "you" are not the parliament. But I really hope the EU would change something ... for its citizens, for us ... for good.

    @EUCommission The EU Commission and Institutions can be a real gamechanger protecting the mental health of 450 million EU citizens. Some examples:

    1) People before business - EU legislation should protect citizens from commercial exploitation. Monetising our lives scares the shit out of people.

    2) Uphold and improve privacy protection instead of eroding our right to privacy. Privacy is a prerequisite for trust.

    3) Establish trust of citizens instead of spying on us: no chat control, age verification or mass surveillance. The dystopy of mass surveillance destroys mental health.

    4) Fight the evil actors, and regulate them hard: Ban surveillance capitalism on the Internet. Addictive antisocial media pose a huge risk for the mental health of our children, so hold corporations responsible.

    My mental health gets continously jeopardized by the EU
    * chatcobtrol
    * mandatory age checks for social media
    * buying gas from russia
    * kissing trumps fascist ass
    * diluting GDPR
    etc... etc...

    @EUCommission

    If mental health matters, what conclusions should we draw from the fact that psychotherapeutic care in Germany is currently being drastically cut back?

    Other interesting options include:

    • demand your representatives protect people's wellbeing online instead of corporate profits
    • demand your representatives ban mass online surveillance instead of advocating for it
    • demand your representatives condemn and actively oppose genocidal and fascist regimes instead of cowering at each fucked up demand of theirs
    etc.

    @EUCommission Wouldn't it be better to have a look at so many EU countries with bad structures, less finances, and horrible attempts of some governments to take money from people who need #care? With waiting lists for therapy over many, too many months? Rich countries!
    Please tell us how the EU protects and helps mentally ill people and their families, and #carers! (I stay at the screen so long).

    The last one is problematic. Need to know what the politicians do. I kind of earn the money you misuse. And the only usable way to get information, is to follow people with the character reference of a politician....

    @EUCommission @ec.social-network.europa.eu

    As long as we continue to face these systemic hurdles, it is clear that the EU’s legislative power remains incomplete.

    We are waiting ... for the promises made under the DSA to become reality.

    We are waiting ... for the end of seasonal time changes.

    We are waiting ... for a genuine open-source initiative that fosters real change to digital freedom.

    We are waiting for the EU to leave so-called "social networks," which are clearly the root cause for massive mental health issues.

    We are waiting for an accelerated green transition that is no longer held hostage by outdated industrial paradigms.

    We are waiting for consequences for corruption across Europe and for a clear, dignified path for Ukraine to join our union.

    We are waiting ... for digital sovereignty that empowers the citizen rather than just regulating them.

    We are waiting for a bureaucracy that serves the people instead of creating labyrinths for them.

    We are waiting ... for affordable living in an era of rising costs.

    While we wait, the world moves on. While we hesitate, others pass us by.

    Your closest friends at your dinner parties are often the very ones holding our beautiful Europe back.

    It is time to step out of those circles and speak to the people.

    WE ARE WAITING for YOU to ACT!

    @EUCommission
    My mental health would perceive a real relief if you went further in cleaning the European Internet environment. That means pushing forward the use of free and open source tools in the European and national administrations and public services and coming to a global European agreement to tax to death the toxic and poisonous corporations that have been pumping in our blood for so long.

    @EUCommission @user47 I think the fourth point is especially important. Social media is not a reliable source of news information. Posts are often written to outrage or create some other kind of emotional response. Get your news and information from reliable sources; turn it off on social media. This has been working for me for a very long time.

    @mlanger @EUCommission @user47

    I think it matters greatly which sources/outlets/people you engage with, whether that's on socials or traditional media.

    So many of the outlets that have been around for decades but also newer ones simply don't pass even a basic standard of journalistic integrity any more.
    At the same time there are a lot of independent journalists and small, newer, outlets who do excellent work and they are primarily found on social media.
    There are also several non-journalists who do excellent stuff on socials.

    Reliable sources, that's important indeed. But you can't easily divide that between traditional and social media.
