    @joannaholman Worse still, they don't recognize when they're actively using those kinds of skills.

    How many times have you heard an adult say they never use algebra? Those same adults are projecting how much a tank of gas costs based on the unit price. They're getting in on a "2 for $5" and can tell you how much of a discount that represents.

    They're using those lessons while aggressively pretending education failed them.

    @gooba42 @joannaholman my uncle, who has had open heart surgery, remains annoyed or angry that college exists. Even the concept of more in depth education annoys him.

    @gooba42 @joannaholman this is why, even as I disliked math at a teenager, I liked this one class called applied math, where the math was applied to normal every day stuff, from measuring drivways or windows, to working on checkbooks, and even determining what your net pay would be each month after you pay social security and taxes, etc.
