Its nothing like the storm of '78.

Have a feeling this #noreaster may not be as bad as the news is reporting. The weather people are way too excited. I get the feeling that since there has been no hurricanes this season they are itching for a storm to report on.

Still charging the powerpacks, cleaned up the yard, and have enough food to get through a few days without power just in case.

Kid just came home from school saying that CNN 10 (Education channel) interviewed someone from an AI company who warned that AI was going to destroy humanity and that it resisted all efforts by the company to turn it off.

JFC, I had to repeat my lesson on critical thinking.

I asked the obvious follow-up question... how did the AI prevent someone physically hitting the power button to the data center.

And... if they were so worried about it why dont they just close the company, stop paying the power bill, etc.

Or... I asked... do you think that the person from the AI company had an agenda in whipping up AI fear and maybe the media should have challenged their assertions a little bit?

I always find it amusing when I receive Tech Support emails alerting me to a security alert of malicious activity sent "from" my personal email domain.

Did not know I was employing a security team. Definitely not paying one.

Journalists follow the if it bleeds it leads mentality of reporting. Of course they are uncritically pushing the doomsday message.

After asking if that is true, i would ask the journalist to explain what AI is and how it could actually kill everyone.

Then finally ask the journalist if they questioned the motives of the doomsayer.

The whole AI going to destroy humanity feels a bit like mass psychosis.

I really question the motivation of the AI company leaders clamoring for regulation and doomsaying.

If they were so concerned they would just turn off and unplug the AI. As I don't see them doing that, I question the sincerity of their predictions.

Feels a bit like Machiavelli mixed with chicken little.
