I'm like "why am I writing about 'gauge'?" and it's cuz I used it in the previous post right next to another word with a nonce spelling.
"People", where /i/ is spelled "eo", is (again, I think) the only word featuring that pairing.

@earthtopus If we include the consonant, we have "guild" and "guilt". They feel French (I don't know if they are). But for any other consonant, that "u" is a shocker. No other "bui-", no "pui-", no "tui-". It's a borderline case.
