    academic me: should I be talking about this here? it's fine in terms of the group I'm working with but aren't I supposed to, like, sit on this knowledge until it's more complete? lest I get scooped or something?

    actual me: lmao

    further thoughts: for the love of all that is good and sacred, PLEASE SCOOP THIS if you study material religion

    if I can inspire even one person, especially academics OF ONE PARTICULAR GENDER AND ABIDING LACK OF ACCOUNTABLE RELATIONAL TIES WITH THOSE YOU ARE "STUDYING" AND THUS LACK OF A CLUE to say **FEWER STUPID THINGS **in print, I will just GIVE you everything I have

    🙃

    One of the problems my spouse has come across is that, even across gender lines, some Pastors under her care are all about *the sermon* and smart things in print. Book smart. She worked hard to get to that academic and theological level. But she's also "street smart".* The struggle is when she asks them what *actions* have they done. Not just local missionary work, but concrete relational actions in their own community. It hadn't even occurred to some of them.

    *wise Appalachian smart.

    @cainmark @jnl

    I recently idly watched a video where “street smart” was reframed as “survival smart” — and it resonated. Not just in the street smart sense, but in the larger one. These are the awarenesses and knowledge that keep people alive out there in the world. And did when we were living in a world with more hunter-gatherer survival concerns and risks.

    Lots of brilliant, educated people have little or no street/survival smarts.
