The Grace Hopper Celebration, one of the largest conferences for women in computer science, has been canceled due to declining sponsorships and registrations.
This is a depressing sign of the times. When I was a manager at Microsoft, it was the norm to encourage women on our teams to attend, all expenses paid.
That time is clearly over.
@carnage4life maybe they should host it in a more welcoming country.
@carnage4life this is so sad to see. I wonder if it was more because sponsorships declined because of the current political environment or less attendees willing to travel to the US or less investment in professional development for engineers in general. I don’t know how the event will recover from this. It will be very hard to raise money for it in the future if people know the event may not be reliable.
