Ordered this book through eBay last week (via Better World Books), and it (they?) arrived yesterday. Two copies shrink-wrapped together. Never had that happen before.

Maybe this means I should read it twice.

Reminder that it’s ok to go to a food bank if you’re struggling to buy groceries. At least in my part of California, anyone at all can walk in and get stuff without proving need.

And that’s why they exist!! It’s ok to make use of them.

Congrats to the Tampa Bay Rays. They’re going to the #WorldSeries to face the Brewers.

Congrats to Cleveland on a great season.

Early voting is surging across the country and the numbers are looking good. Debates are being dominated. Fundraising records are being broken. And millions showed up at No Kings rallies this weekend to make their voices heard. Less than three weeks until Election Day. Let’s keep up the pace! https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/week-progressive-wins-october-18

ICE is out in SOMA this morning.

Every Sunday, I take photos of the food my wife has made us for the week (yes, I'm extremely fortunate). I don't usually get around to posting them, though. Here's this week's contingent.

Silken tofu with spicy soy dressing
Bok Choy with scallions
Dan Dan noodles with BeyondMeat
Salt and pepper shrimp
Smoked salmon salad with seaweed
Rice cakes with Shao Hsing rice wine

Been thinking more about El-Sayed and “Tommy”. Never forget that much of this country was founded by Christian religious zealots, people who put freedom of religion into their state constitutions and then the U.S. federal constitution not because they so much wanted people whose Christian sects differed from theirs to have freedom of worship but because the sects of them and their forebears were persecuted in England by King and Parliament. 1/

I remember when I worked in Sausalito, I'd often see a mix of boats anchored out in Richardson Bay, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge off Sausalito. I guess I was charmed by the independence and self-sufficient nature of it all.

I think it's sad and a bit wrong that this guy (and his friends before him) is being forced off the bay at this point in his life. He's the only one living on his boat in the middle of the bay; why not leave him be?

Meta messing with Indivisible just as No Kings begins. SpaceX shutting down Starlink right when the Russians launch a deadly attack on Ukraine. Meta censoring Lula and promoting Bolsonaro days before the Brazilian election.

This is the future that big tech has given us. This is where we are today...

So apparently all the coordination, planning and communications for organising No Kings events on Instagram have disappeared and the account admins have been suspended.

So... here's the thing:

DON'T PLAN YOUR REVOLUTION ON THE KING'S BLACKBOARD.

The fact that organisers are depending on the availability of a platform run by any of the tech bros... well, it makes me think you aren't a terribly effective opposition.

BREAKING: Mapquest now includes a layer showing known Flock and other surveillance cameras!

L.A. means Lost Again as Milwaukee sweeps the Dodgers to advance to their first World Series appearance since 1982. Huge congrats to the Brewers.
