“Daddy, what is class inheritance?”
The perpetuation of class distinctions and oppression through bloodlines over generations. Avoid it.
“I meant in programming?”
Avoid that too.

The great thing about imagining the future is that you aren't responsible for shipping it. Shipping is the act of resolving conflicts and removing constraints, and the art is actually in those myriad little decisions.
But it's fun to look back at one's vague hopes and dreams and point to the ones that seem to fit. e.g. “We don't implement a specification, we manage a transformation queue.”
I think that still applies even after the shift to generative AI.

Employers often attempt asymmetrical adversarial tactics against interviewees, like using AI to interview but trying to reject candidates using AI. Or insisting on a salary history before making an offer, but declining to publish the pay history or even just bands for the position. Or... Or...
My position has always been that if they treat me like a peon when hiring, what will they be like when I depend upon them for a pay cheque?
And no, that didn't and doesn't change during hard times.
An unbelievable gig. “Autumn Leaves” at 12:04 is insanely good. Carter decides to reinvent the melody, and the trio plays along in real time.
One of the things about men on the internet who talk about meeting women is that they are a very specific sub-culture of weakly straight men: They are not bi, but rather their whole culture is around relationships between men, not relationships with both men and women.
Yet they generalize this as if all straight men are like them, and all straight women are like the women who will—possibly reluctantly—give them the time of day.
“But it aint necessarily so.”
Some shots a fellow @SOSAGlidingClub member (and extremely patient volunteer instructor) took during Friday afternoon’s winch session. That’s Toronto gleaming in the not-too-distant-distance.
We have fall intro flights available. My own journey began with an Autumn intro. Come fly with us!

Attended a fun little gig upstairs in a Phillipino restaurant. Alas, with @accordionguy in Florida, there were no accordions 😞
Fuse, n., business jargon:
A person who is accountable for the outcome but has no authority over the process. Their purpose is to be fired and replaced with another fuse when something goes wrong, protecting managers who have authority over the process from being held accountable for its outcome.

This may be a story about AI. Or is it a story about Billy Martin, the New York Yankees, and three envelopes?
Alice:
"You know how your avocation is something you'd do even if you couldn't make any money from it and even if nobody else cared whether you did it or not?"
Bob:
"Mmmm, yes?"
Alice:
"That’s no longer a thought experiment."
Weird that the kind of people who buy islands for pocket change don't want to build their ~Fires~of~Mordor~ data centres there.
Makes you think.
And then makes you organize.
