I think my body is finding creative new ways to express burn-out.
I know all things are possible through spite, but I suspect I will be paying the piper in 2029 when I finally release.

Ensign Kellogg on Star Trek: The Next Generation was played by a trans woman, Cameron
she had to hide and be stealth, it’s never mentioned the character is trans but
there’s something truly magic in knowing that the next time i rewatch TNG, i will see her there
and i will know that someone like me
helped make the show that ignited my lifelong love of Star Trek 😭
(Legal backstory: county GOP leadership has filed a complaint that Irene broke a technicality, & thus needs to be fired.
Irene did not, in fact, do any of that.
The only reason this has worked so far is the NC state board of elections is GOP-dominated. So partisan attacks get a pass there.
So she's bringing the legal battle to court. That will force the local GOP to bring their case into the open & that the accusations are bogus.)
Our county isn't well-off. But here's what we do have: multiple swing districts. In a swing state.
It matters SO MUCH to have our county board of elections be competent & fair.
Ms. Irene is expecting about $10K in legal fees. We've already raised $1.3K locally.
Fayetteville NC is not a wealthy community, so that's where the crowdfunding comes in.

Right now, with Irene, we have a county Board of Elections member who is phenomenal. So the local GOP is trying to get her kicked off the board.
Because she's good at her job.
So we're crowdfunding $10K for her legal defense.
US readers- I've been talking a lot lately about how "Yes, the GOP will try & take your votes. And YES, THEY CAN BE STOPPED"?
There's a great example here in North Carolina right now!
Our area is one of the GOP's testing grounds for new ways to steal votes.
Stop them here, you stop them everywhere. Help us help you!

comparing Andrew Tate to a random cat on the internet
winner: cat, obvs
it's a meme, no idea where it fucking came from
If you're writing a story about police abusing Flock access to stalk current/former/potential partners, I'm begging you to please follow up on the consequences these cops face for getting caught, because a lot of the time it's barely more than a slap on the wrist.
Watching six national guardsmen watch two police officers watch one unhoused person shout at the walls
Our old cat is getting very old and we’re having tough discussions. She was, until this year, also a mean, half-feral cat who did not engender friendship. Now she’s nice but struggling to climb stairs and peeing where she shouldn’t. We lost three cats since last July. Not sure if we’re ready for a fourth.
I would be willing to cheer for Mr. Trump updating Dulles. Go put your tiny hands to some positive building.
Man, I am really going to miss Sam Neill. Not only was he a great actor, he was a wholesome and kind human being. He loved animals and loved bringing people joy wherever he could. RIP Sam.
🌱 The US has 40 million acres of lawn. It's our largest irrigated crop, and most of it is an ecological dead zone.
But you don't have to nuke your whole yard. Some alternatives:
Clover lawns: fix their own nitrogen (no fertilizer needed), need far less water, stay green in drought, and Dutch white clover alone supports 55 bee species.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/grass-lawn-alternatives-clover-moss-sedge-native-plants
Bee / pollinator lawns: mix low-growing native flowers into turf. A Cornell demo plot now needs zero fertilizer, pesticides, or irrigation and supports 4x the insect diversity of conventional turf.
https://wildones.org/what-is-a-pollinator-lawn/
Wildflower meadows: one study found converting lawns to meadows supported 35 bee species in just two years.
https://blog.nwf.org/2024/04/grow-beyond-no-mow-may-options-for-reducing-your-lawn/
The key finding: you don't have to go all in. Converting even 10-20% of a yard makes a measurable difference. And "No Mow May" alone isn't enough, year-round reduced mowing is where the real benefit is.
Caught Disclosure Day. Fun but not deep. Like ET if the main character were Edward Snowden. Wasn’t prepared for it to be so long though (2.5hrs). At least warehouse cinema has an outstanding beer selection.
Coming back from Artscape we decided to metro home. “It’s free!” child one said.
It’s not free. It’s $2. So I buy $6 on the app. While I’m trying to scan the QR on a turnstile with no scanner, a woman in an aquarium staff shirt walks past. “It’s free! Hope you enjoy your visit.”
I’ve been tourist-jacketed.
We think our cat just had an aneurysm. So shocking, right in front of us. I tried CPR but he was gone so fast. <3 Deimos
