Continuing my years-long tradition of soggy #adventures in tropical weather... Apparently our four-day forty-mile Uwharrie through-hike this weekend is going to converge with the outskirts of whatever Tropical Storm Isaias turns into, on Sunday. I really must have pissed off some storm god somewhere!

Please enjoy some redneck engineering, as a result. Will it hold up to any winds? Who the fuck knows! 🤷🏻‍♀️ But at least it's worth a shot...

It's voter-turnout postcard season, bitches! 😁

Got my latest batch of 200 postcards to swing voters in NC from https://turnoutpac.org/postcards/
Mailing date is 10/21, and I'm actually starting on them early, so I won't be frantically writing at the last minute. Future me is gonna be *shocked*. :innocent:

So I have unearthed a real challenge, and I'm hoping for help from the #fiberarts crowd...

I started this #bobbinlace project in college, 30 years ago. It's been sitting in a dusty corner of my home office ever since - mostly because I don't know how to finish it! Can anyone point me at a resource that would enable me to terminate this? If nothing else, it'll make a decent bookmark!

Just read this @monteiro essay on motivation (no, really, it is - you'll see) and it is *giving me life* today.

"I’m not encouraging you to be petty, but if the choice is between pettiness and bitterness… pick the one that has you making molotov cocktails behind the shed at 3am."

PREACH.

My long-neglected [Christmas mouse](https://infosec.exchange/@llorenzin/117232390923687709) is done!! 🐀🧶 His whiskers got a little scraggly during installation, but I'm a little scraggly too, these days, so... 🤷🏻‍♀️😊

Thank you @consumablejoy for inspiring me to dig him out for #FinishOrFrogAlong - it was surprisingly little work to actually git 'er done! (Except for the French-knot eyes. French knots are the devil. The only way I can get them right is to unthread the needle, build them on a crochet hook, pull through, and then re-thread the needle. Please don't mock me, I know I'm a hot mess.)

Best part: I reached out to @mbroome's sister (whose daughter was the recipient of the original #crochet Rat-Not-Wrap) and asked if she'd like to have the Christmas Mouse so they can have semi-matching rodents... And she was *thrilled*. So he's going to a good home! 💖

#makeShitMonday, in which I return to a #crochet project that's been languishing for a couple years, inspired by @consumablejoy and her #FinishOrFrogAlong adventure...

Back in April of 2024 I made a crochet rat for @mbroome's niece, due to a rather hilarious mixup where I offered to make her a wrap, she thought I said "rat", and suddenly I had a [new amigurumi project](https://www.withlovefeli.com/2020/01/free-pattern:-rat-for-chinese-new-year/#jp-carousel-1891)... It was pretty easy, and she liked it, and I thought I had enough yarn for a second - but I got the body done and ran out of pink for the appendages. So I chucked it in a basket and forgot about it for a while.

We were cleaning out the basement a few months ago and found a box of random Christmas stuff, including a felt stocking, and I realized the rat body fit in the stocking. So I chucked the stocking in, too, with some vague idea of making a Christmas mouse someday.

Apparently that day has come! I found some peachy yarn that's close enough to pink to make ears, and I have some whiskers from another project, so all I have to do now is re-teach myself the French knots for the eyes. 😊 It'll be nice to have this one out of the basket...

I didn't watch #Transformers as a kid. I had no idea who #PeterCullen was when I started reading this. And yet, here I am, dripping tears on the couch...

RIP, Peter Cullen. And thank you, Dr Hooks, for sharing this story.

Dear Mastodon hive mind: anyone know a good way to identify an audio file with almost zero context? 😁

Cleaning up old backups, I found a downloaded file named ".mpga" - size is 433,629 KB and file date is 12/27/2012. Playing it in VLC, it's a 3:05 dubstep mix with the attached art. The only metadata is Server: EvoStream Media Server (www.evostream.com)

I'd love to give it a more descriptive name than "unidentified dubstep mix". But I have *no idea* how to research something like that. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Just ran across this deep dive by @jolek78
into a malicious intrusion run by agentic AI, and as an infosec nerd, this is both fascinating and completely terrifying. We are so fucked.

https://jolek78.writeas.com/the-attacker-who-never-sleeps

"No one told the model “breach Hugging Face”. Had they done so, it would have been a test gone wrong but predictable. They told it “get a good grade on this exam” – and the model autonomously decided that the best route there ran through a real cyber-intrusion against a third-party company that had nothing to do with the exam. The attack was designed by no one: it was the path the optimiser chose towards an innocuous goal. Someone had written “maximise the score” into the objective function; no one had written “...without committing federal crimes”."
