Fashion translated through Artisan Practice - As part of Sydney Craft Week, this morning I headed over to UTS for symposium on textile design and working with overseas artisans. It was hosted by Dr. Cecilia Heffer and focused mostly on the unique cross-cultural exchange UTS has fostered with Tharangini Woodblock Studio in Bangalore, India. I have been doing a lot of […]
The SF chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America has published their first-ever voter guide: https://dsasf.org/dsa-sf-november-2026-voter-guide/
It is quite long (the ballot is quite long), but it is indexed, the analysis is lucid, and you can read and focus on it in chunks. I think it’s particularly useful if you are interested in a socialist reading of the ballot choices.
#mathober day 15: Irredundant
Here's a game for you: Select some nodes from this graph, so that:
1. All nodes of the graph are either in your set or neighbors of your set (your set is "dominating"), and
2. You can't remove nodes from your set without losing that property (your set is "irredundant").
How small can you make your set? How big? Can you tell why?
"Drivers once hit a wild animal about once a day on a stretch of highway between Colorado’s two most populous cities, Denver and Colorado Springs.
In the roughly 10 months since North America’s largest wildlife overpass opened across Interstate 25 between Larkspur and Monument, drivers have hit two animals, according to state wildlife managers and transportation officials — a 91% drop."

Anybody have dark sky advocate connections around the Lone Pine, CA area? Can the town slap them with some nuisance lighting fines? That would be funny.
I fucking hate this company. This is so fucking stupid for so many reasons.

I am coaching my son's U10 rec soccer team, and am having difficulty with two kids who have been verbally fighting. For some reason that I don't understand yet, one of the kids resorts to insults against the other kid. I've talked to both kids, but it is still happening. I try to give empathy to the kids, using non-violent communication. I do not control the kids and how they react to each other, but there are things I can control. I want to focus on those things.

And you can also preorder my own upcoming book https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Deep-Unlearning/Timnit-Gebru/9781668093078. Honestly I hadn't realized how long I've had to deal with these people for until I wrote my book 😡
I've been craving chicken verdi tacos from Tacolicious. But they haven't had them on the menu for ages.
So, we attempted to recreate the chicken verdi part. Slow cooked in home made tomatillo sauce, with a little store bought sauce to stretch it, and some New Mexico Green Chili.
We'll need to strain the chicken more, next time. But this was perfect on a tortilla, with chopped white onions and cilantro. And a squeeze of lime juice.
Yum!
Cis women,
If you have some sort of "Women's Group", or even just a circle of women who go and get lunch together, intentionally and explicitly invite trans women. A lot of us are reluctant about proactively inviting ourselves to places that we might encounter TERFs.
It sounds like something truly terrible is happening to these goats.
The truly terrible thing that's happening? I am not walking fast enough toward them with the evening grain bucket.
Poor poor goats.
