This scene from Shameless hits differently if you’re in the tech industry in 2026.

This Oregon school shooting highlights how much of our hardening of the physical infrastructure of schools has just been a performance of security. In this case, the dude shot off the door locks. Well, yes. Of course.

the developers of big walk - house house - just put out a statement explaining that big walk will not be coming to xbox because of the BDS boycott of microsoft

Any fool can burn $40 billion over a long enough timespan. It takes a real business genius to do it in a week

A girl won the role of Seymour in South Grand Prairie High School in Texas.

Then, the district freaked out because of Texas' anti-trans and anti-gay law.

So they tried to strip her role and give it to a boy.

She refused, so now they are cancelling the play.

Elevation Lab pulls its AirTag silencing tool. Good things can still happen, occasionally through the power of shame. Kudos to @glennf on this one: https://www.elevationlab.com/blogs/news/an-apology

The Grace Hopper Celebration, one of the largest conferences for women in computer science, has been canceled due to declining sponsorships and registrations.

This is a depressing sign of the times. When I was a manager at Microsoft, it was the norm to encourage women on our teams to attend, all expenses paid.

That time is clearly over.

If you haven't been paying attention to this story, it's truly wild - a supposed European alternative to big tech social media that lured in politicians and made waves but is incredibly poorly thought-out and is effectively doxxing its users. @_elena has been on it from the beginning. https://blog.elenarossini.com/public-by-design-how-w-social-makes-their-verified-users-personal-details-visible-on-the-open-web/

September’s CPI came in hotter than expected at 3.7%, versus the 3.6% economists had forecast, with core CPI also topping estimates at 2.6%.

The surprise, driven largely by rising gas and energy prices, could put an October Fed rate hike back on the table.
