one upside of perl ageing out its own community is that it's at least a more-or-less stable language. i can knock out a throwaway script with the same knowledge i had 25 years ago. and there's no possibility for the code to look nice so i don't have any internal pressure to worry about that

The realities of modern warfare make hosting your applications and data in data centers a risky proposition. However, with novel coding techniques, it may be possible to install applications, and maybe even store data, on end users’ own devices
the spirit of fast inverse sqrt lives on…for some intel uarches, it's faster to compute vectorized clz/ctz via float conversion and bit hacks than to use scalar ops https://purplesyringa.moe/blog/vectorized-clz-and-ctz/
x11 isn't really my cup of tea, and wayland doesn't support monochrome surfaces, so maybe i'll write a window system instead

Even with minimal things enabled, NetBSD’s rc script takes a while to finish on a 120MHz ARM9, so I wrote my own rc script that runs in a couple seconds. But it looks like the 30 second delay on shutdown is hardcoded into /sbin/init. So maybe I’ll write my own init too.
There are some things about the kernel that I think could be slightly improved. Maybe I’ll write my own ker
