my proposal is simple: no more websites

I hope Wikipedia is able to update their PHP installs pretty quickly in light of this massive bug. Imagine what'd happen if absolutely anyone on the internet could edit their pages.

Someday we'll look back and laugh at the PHPocalypse.

If your painting was done before 1698 it falls outside our lifetime support window and you will need to contact the original painter.

I learned a lot this morning about updating PHP and a old Ubuntu install. I would like to thank the PHP maintainers for the opportunity.

A critical flaw has been found in the color Arylide yellow. All artists need to immediately update their paintings.

Pulaski: day-tuh, da-tuh what's the difference?
Data: One is my name, the other is not.

If you are ever going to be successful making things you have to hold on to a vision and a point of view on things. You can seek some feedback but if you try to please everyone "you" will be filtered out of the end results and all you have to offer people is you.

I watched TNG when it was first aired (although technically it was on cable"). I've watched the whole thing while it was steaming on Netflix at least 4 times and now on my Plex for #5. It's kind of like Rocky Horror, I mouth along with all the lines and bring props and scream "look out Data!".

* You can tell I just started watching my ripped TNG DVD's.

"Omega Alpha 3". Come one Picard! Every password manager I have says this is "weak".

I bet you thought we still ran around with our changes on floppy disks.

I conduct periodic fire tests where I literally just unplug the server and see what I can recover from my onsite and offsite backups.

Literally- I pull the plug. That's not a euphemism, that is literally what I do.

Even if you don't self-host, this sort of backup strategy is what makes sense. Like the photos on your phone? Turn off your phone, put it in a drawer, and get at the photos using a laptop or desktop. If you can't do it, you don't have a backup, and should correct that.

"ok, now refactor the code and make it look like it wasn't written by AI"

Forget billionaire algorithms, use RSS. Most sites have them.

Both the Thimbleweed Park Blog and Grumpy Gamer do. Full text feeds.

I've been using and serving RSS since 2005.

All the cool kids are doing it.

If you're using AI to make content you're saving time and money but you're making shitty content. If you can't see the shittyness of the content, it's all the more reason you shouldn't be doing it.

So like, Linux goes AI slop. This is a big problem for me. I can't easily stop using Linux or stop updating Linux. A plan for getting off of Linux is going to take me months or years.

Firefox goes AI slop. This is a big problem for me. I can't easily stop using or updating Firefox. A plan for getting off of Firefox is going to take me months or years.

ScummVM goes AI slop. Do you have *any idea* how easy it would be for me to never use ScummVM for the rest of my life? Geez, it's out.
