Posting Sad Reform Gammon again, because his big, red, sad face has made me so happy today.

He looks like he might cry.

Fucketey-bye, you racist piece of shit 😁

IT’S NOT A VIDEO PODCAST, IT’S A TV SHOW WITH LOW PRODUCTION VALUES! 🤨🤣

Ok, looks like this is the week of funny experiences.

Customer: "I had an AI check our server and it says the SSH port is open and that's not very secure."

Me: "Yes, you asked us to open it so you could access the server via SFTP (actually, you wanted FTP, but we discussed it a bit and found this compromise). Don't worry, it's only accessible from your IP and you land in a dedicated FreeBSD jail. From there, you can only access the 'exchange' directory on your server, where you can upload and download files without affecting the application."

(NB: I had suggested a VPN, but they declined because it was too complicated.)

Customer: "Yes, but maybe it's still insecure. Can't we close it?"

Me: "No, unless you want to lose access to that directory."

Customer: "Ok, thanks."

One hour later:

Customer: "Hi, I think we've found a solution. We've just created an app (!!!) with AI that lets us access the files anyway, but more securely than SSH (!!!). Can we install that and close SSH? Oh, and not in the dedicated jail, but directly in the application's jail, because it needs access to the application's files."

Me: "Frankly, I trust SSH in a dedicated jail, restricted by the firewall, a lot more. I don't think this is a good idea."

Customer: "Ok, thanks."

Half an hour later:

Customer: "Ok, now it's secure. I had another AI check it and it found some security issues, but it fixed them all. Can you install it and disable SSH?"

Me: "I strongly advise against it. I can see problems coming."

Customer: "Ok, thanks."

One hour later, my phone rings.

Their internal IT guy (who has access to the machine, which, after all, belongs to them) had given the AI the login credentials to go ahead with the operation.

Except the AI had managed to lock itself out via the firewall, without even starting the app. And now they couldn't get back in.

Fortunately, I had my own access, via VPN, to a separate jail that the AI hadn't touched (or even considered).

Customer: "SORRYSORRYSORRYSORRYSORRY! From now on, we do things your way."

Well, at least it ended well.

PS: The customer knows I'm sharing this story and agreed to it.

@matt303 hehe....result 😀

Poor sad Reform Boy

I've said it before and I'll say it again: #fuckReform 🏆

If you don’t already own Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story on Switch, you now have no excuse because it’s 75% off (!) until the 26th. https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/Llamasoft-The-Jeff-Minter-Story-2532201.html

I mean, that’d be cheap for Tempest 2000 alone. But also: Llamatron, versus Gridrunners, Ancipital, etc…

EDIT: 75% off on Steam too…

I’m bloody annoyed: I forgot to pay a bridge toll of £2 at the start of the month. Fair enough that’s on me, I expect some sort of punitive charge for it.

But the notice I got for £27 is the £2 toll plus £25 expenses and administration fee. At least have the balls to tell me you’re finjng me for my forgetfulness rather than dress it up as some sort of processing fee, Ticketmaster style 😒

A few more #thePlaylistSuggestion tracks before I forget:

Bon Jovi - Social Disease

Jimmy Edgar - I Wanna Be Your STD

Anti-Nowhere League - So What

That’ll do, I reckon…

There is only one true krautrock - if you are a purist.

You find Karl, aged 68, somewhere in a loft in Spandau. Karl smokes endlessly and knocks out four on the floor, unwavering - snare on two and four and high hat eighths.

Oh, this has just brightened up my day! I’ve had an original Launchpad sat doing nothing for a while now because it’s not a class-compliant USB device, and Novation dropped support for it.

Now there’s an open source project to support it on modern Apple Silicon versions of macOS:

Ofcom has published an updated version of its list of naughty words:

Warning: this is a list of naughty words. It contains naughty words. In a list.

RT: @StoneDunk Neither Cartier-Bresson, Banksy nor Cold War Steve could have come up with such an image. Absolutely perfect composition and lighting (even the road signs are perfect)! 😍

I loathe the ad auction system and all the profiling that underpins it at the best of times, but then knowingly delivering malware to specific targets is another level.

At least it's another reason to recommend adblockers.

Well, I’ve done coffee, *and* eaten a healthy breakfast. Can I go back to bed now, please?

I genuinely thought this was some Alex fucking James grift when I saw “blur” and “blockchain” in the same sentence 😂
