@ai6yr If we start having Internet shut downs here we are in trouble because, at least in NYC, so many of the old buildings don't have landlines anymore. They've all moved to VoIP. Either they have decayed or the mice ate through them and the phone companies won't replace them. They just give you a VoIP box. I think I just scared myself.
Inspiré par un autre sondage et des discussions récentes : si vous êtes de gauche, est-ce que l’année prochaine vous pensez/envisagez de voter Jonluk Mélenchon au premier tour, et surtout : pourquoi ? #passionSondages :thaenkin:

The Job Call is officially up! We're seeking an assistant professor of Humanities or Digital Humanities whose work is in critical Science & Technology Studies at the intersection of the humanities, broadly construed (e.g., philosophy, literature, history, religious studies, American studies, Asian studies, ethnic studies, the creative arts, etc.). Social scientists also welcome. Individual backgrounds can vary greatly and still meet our ask, as long as they're anchored in STS. Successful candidate will teach STS in our Digital Humanities Program as well as other courses across our programs. We're part of the CSU, so teaching focused, but probationary faculty have a reduced 3/3 load that is renewable after tenure. Also: we do NOT have an internal candidate.
Email my campus email with questions/inquiries. I'll forward to the search committee as needed. todd.ormsbee@sjsu.edu
Please boost and share with any colleagues or recent PhD grads (or ABDs who will be done by August 2027).

There is a direct line from white supremacists protesting school integration in the 1950s and 60s holding signs that read: “Race Mixing is Communism” to the Trumpist attempts to demonize their political opponents as “communist” traitors
It's such an idiotic error that it's hard to explain. I tried at greater length in my article:
Pippin (BC, Canada) was thrilled to receive tiny little footballs to play with, so he has been practicing his new career as a football player.
Ode to Taco Bell, by Éros Brousson:
“For years I thought that Taco Bell was a fictional restaurant in video game like GTA, a place that only existed between a strip club, a gun store, and a man in a Hawaiian shirt committing a felony.
“Then I landed in Miami and there it was: between a strip club, a gun store, and a man in a Hawaiian shirt committing a felony. The purple bell glowing in the dark like a church for people whose evening has gone horribly wrong”

The most delicious food is the food you get when you stick your little head under a screen or around a corner and just... get it... and then even better, someone is yelling at you so you just know it is good and then you eat faster.
Nothing tastes better than food under these circumstances.
Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude (or the collection of models called Claude) deserving moral consideration and/or being able to feel distress, so my inbox is filling up with journos asking me to comment.
I've also got a day job, so here is a brief set of public comments on this:

They’re live-streaming the execution of the person they think they can get away with doing that to first. It’s a test. If they can do that, they’ll expand the margins of permission.
Non mais leurs pancartes jpp 🤣
Curtis Yarvin praising Hitler, Peter Thiel ranting nonstop about the Antichrist…and no one asks JD Vance about his deranged gurus?
I’m old enough to remember when we had to talk about Obama’s pastor for a year or so. https://www.rawstory.com/jd-vance-curtis-yarvin/
Australian nerds might remember a few years ago when AGL closed and then demolished the incredibly old coal power plant Liddell, a bitcoin startup tried to buy it to power bitcoin mining. Same guys are involved in an "AI datacenter provider" called Firmus and are about to IPO at a massive value of A$44B. Same dudes, including the one who went to jail for financial crimes. Anyone who invests in this despite the many many red flags doesn't get to say "who could have known?"
Today's status:
Interesting phishing attempt: I got an email to my work address that specifically targeted me by name telling me that my Microsoft premium copilot license was set to expire and that my organization required that I click the link to resume it.
The Microsoft branding was near perfect. The text was clean and proofread.
Of course, my org handles sensitive data and has copilot blocked, so the phish was obvious from that.
I am indispensable, like soft-serve from a McDonald's ice cream machine
Fascism treats women as mere breeders. "Children, kitchen, and church" was the Nazi slogan for women.

Yeah yeah individual action versus collective blah blah wait for the government to fix it because you can't fix climate change by yourself whatever, but I'm *not* doing this by myself. Loads of people are putting up solar panels, loads of people are reducing their consumption because they get a more visceral understanding of what a watt really is, and loads of people are *talking to each other about this stuff,* first as isolated weirdos over the internet but then to our friends and neighbours. I'm the first one in my social circle to do it, but my social circle is meerkatting over all curious and watching me and going "Hmm, maybe I'll be next," tendrils are going out, cells are connecting.
You see pictures online and you hear about stuff going on in other countries then you see panels on a roof on a road trip and then you see them in your neighbourhood and then you see them on your street and then you get them yourself, is how this works, it spreads like the opposite of a disease. Like an ease I guess
