@anon_opin But, I like big cups and I cannot lie

I bet you thought we still ran around with our changes on floppy disks.

There's a dust-up over an AI ad from Bookshop.org. But they didn't use AI; Meta's ad platform automatically created an AI "variation" of the original, non-AI content.

I went to disable this crap in our Shiraki Press ad account, and got served a popup *demanding a reason why*.

Fuck Meta for this. Consent matters. We've just pulled all paid advertising from their platforms.

What we’re up against in the U.S. during this election.

Yesterday:

1. Meta closed the No Kings accounts on the day of the protest. Restored them later, saying “our bad.” But did not restore admin privileges.

2. We learned that millions of people had no idea about the protests because Meta suppressed posts about it.

3. Bluesky closed the @DemocracyMattersALot account for “unusual activity.” (No idea if it has been restored.)

And for months we’ve been watching the fascists do everything in their power to restrict voting rights.

The billionaires know they’re the minority. Not economically (which is obvious) but ethically. Otherwise they wouldn’t be working so hard to stop democracy.

I wanna believe most Americans are good people. We’re fighting for what’s right. But our enemy has massive resources and control. That what we need to quell.

Keep fighting. Stay vigilant. And for fuck’s sake, vote!

Read the backstory on “Tommy”. More important: watch the video of El-Sayed to the end.
Really significant moment for US Constitutional democracy. https://www.thehandbasket.co/p/tommy-teepell-abdul-el-sayed-viral-video-town-hall-josh-hawley

When you have wealth, you want power.

When you have power, you want wealth.

When you have both, you want to live forever and be God.

That’s when you’re f—ked.

@MacBalance thanks for the kind words! I’ll try to help.

1) That’s the way it works on Mastodon itself. We’re carrying through the convention from the service into Tapestry.

2) That’s a bug that’s fixed in the upcoming 2.1 release. Hang in there!

3) A star is an item that you favorite. The bookmark marks the item on your Mastodon account so you can read it later if you wish. Log into Mastodon on the web and select bookmarks in the sidebar to view them.

Over on Whatever today I go over @subvert.fm's "AI" policy and tell you why I think it's a really good version of such a policy, and why other organizations looking to create such a policy of their own would be well served to give it a look:

https://whatever.scalzi.com/2026/10/18/what-a-good-ai-policy-looks-like/

You don't need "alexa" or "siri" if you have a cat. You can say the cats name and all kinds of things will happen.

Probably not what you want, but it's still a kind of "voice interface"

And you still have a "she who will not be named"

So I’m loving the recent changes to the #tapestryapp that basically make it a full-featured Mastodon client in addition to RSS and other feed formats.

However, I have a couple questions:

1. Why is Boost and Quote forced to share a drop down like siblings sharing a room in a wacky 80s sitcom?
2. Why do the Star and Bookmark buttons disable boosts or are disabled when hitting boost?
3. What 8s the difference between Star and Bookmark?

So *that's* what it's made of!

When a hard reset isn't good enough.

Get this: You can just go in there and have a look through 92,000 books and just borrow one or a few, and they don't even charge you. I mean you can also use their 3D Printers and sewing machines and computers and all that stuff, but they also have like a million (92,000) books you can read for free. This is peak civilisation right here. Pump that FREE READING AND KNOWLEDGE shit straight into my veins omg.

Our new library is absolutely beautiful.
I've never really felt civic pride, in any of the many towns and cities I've lived in, but this is great. A big investment in things that matter.

Happy 6 year (and 1 day) anniversary to one of the most unhinged posts I’ve ever made: the HTML5 accelerator card

Whatever chemicals are handled at this refinery, the signs are that they are not good for the health.

And yet, someone has sneaked in and left their mark.

just heard from my boss who teaches a group project course at a university that she had been required by the department to shoehorn in a certain number of projects involving AI

and when she asked her class who wanted to take those on, the entire class of undergraduates voted those projects out because they were sick of being forced AI on every front

This latest stunt just shows how fucking stupid Muskolytes are. The car didn't fly, it experienced a controlled fall, and it needed a ramp to get to the point where it could leave the ground.

And I can all but guarantee you that it used every ounce of propellant it had onboard to pull off that little stunt.

Then there is the fact that flying cars are a really, _really_, seriously terrible idea.
