So I tried to create a custom disk definition, based on IBM 1200 - and still, it won't work.

I tried PC Backup 5.5, but unfortunately, it says "Bad disk".

But based on this https://www.os2museum.com/wp/the-central-point-backup-floppy-format/, it seems that these disks were formatted with 16 sectors per track! And the visualisation of the raw flux confirms it.

And indeed, when I installed Central Point Backup 7, it could say that my image was a backup made by PC Backup release 5.5. Apparently the different versions of this software are not compatible, so it cannot do anything with it. Still, the info is useful.

I could not mount the resulting image, but didn't care too much about that, as I supposed that it was a proprietary format from a backup software. And indeed, the image starts with "PCBACKUP", which suggests that it was created by PC Backup (later known as Central Point Backup).

I made a copy of the flux with the #greaseweazle, then converted it to ibm.1200. All 15 sectors were correctly read, though it "ignored an unexpected sector" between each track.

I have a set of 6 5.25 floppies from my father that, according to the label, are a backup of his 386 computer, made in 1997.

À #iPRES2026 on a eu un prix avec @AlixB pour notre article sur la préservation des webcomics de @davidrevoy. On y parle d'une approche de la préservation numérique qui essaie de comprendre comment les créateur•ices produisent et quelles sont leurs motivations (l'idée c'est que les institutions de préservation aillent dans leur sens, ou a minima ne leur nuisent pas). Et on se penche un peu, en bon file format nerd, sur les avantages du format natif de #Krita pour la préservation.
