This is Pele, my new rendering library for diagrams and charts, compatible with the latest Mermaid syntax.
- 100-500× faster than mermaid.js
- 6× smaller bundle
- No dependencies
- Easy to theme
- Responsive to device width
In pursuit of making #Obsidian insanely fast and cohesively designed, I always found the Mermaid library to be too big, too slow, and too hard to theme. Pele will be the new renderer in the next version of Obsidian, but you can start using it now!

@kepano thank you for focusing on performance. I don't need (/want) new features in Obsidian and was so happy about the return of fuzzy search for big vaults and while I don't use mermaid graphs I appreciate that performance is where your head's at.

I only saw colors for pie charts and could not find a way to link labels with areas, does it have an option to make these graphs accessible?

@kepano Staying in sync with Mermaid matters more than it looks: it's the diagram syntax LLMs write most reliably, so diagrams generated straight into a vault just render. Any plans for a CLI that outputs SVG?

Amazing! I was so excited that I vibe-coded an API that ingests .vtt files where I've asked a bunch of users to describe how they do a task, an LLM parses it and creates JSON for the task and Pele uses that to create swimlane task diagrams. Me 'n the AI did that in one day. Really useful for UX research!

@kepano Oh neat! Might be niche, but I've often used click callbacks to trigger model detail views from my charts. Is the lack of support for security reasons or more related to what svg supports. (just curious, not intending to demand support 😅 )
