@alcinnz at some point there may arise the need for a new or different phrase for (FL)OSS. Open is a plastic word by now and free/libre is associated with libertarianism. But words like 'organic (software)' is ready to be harvested by capitalism, since they already use it for different products. Maybe it needs to be more offensive than 'human-made', a term that money can be made from. Meme phrases wouldn't last long, since humour decays quite quickly. Any time I see badges on Codeberg, as an example, that say things like "supported by the gay agenda" or "slop-free" it sounds more reasonable to me, because it won't be coopted as easily. A new term would always need to appall capitalist/fascist approaches. If you called it 'communist software' it might work today, even if it sounds clichee. I don't know, I am just openly fatigued.

@hbons @dio I think that might be a good term for a subset of FOSS, but personally I'm also keen to celebrate the elegant software maintained by individuals. Where their might be no community to speak of.

As long as I can study the source code, and am free to reuse it...

@dio @alcinnz Seems like the obvious answer is "socialist software". Workers owning the means of software production rather than being reliant on big business. Software being for the benefit of society as a whole.

@dio @alcinnz It needs to be a term that western capitalist societies have coded as „female“. Then it will never be co-opted by big business and tech bros. (This is a sarcastic comment and kinda sad but I think it would work which makes it even more sad).
