Took the very hard decision today to suspend shipping to the US as new regulations come in to force in a few days.

My job should be designing, testing, and shipping cool #RC2014 kits. The new regulations look like I won't have any time for that as I'll spend all my time buried in paperwork

I will keep an eye on things, and maybe when they have settled down I'll see if there are workarounds, exemptions or other ways that mean I can resume US shipments.

In the meantime, I hope all of my US customers have passports and have friends/family overseas that they want to visit. I'm happy to ship elsewhere if needed.

@haitchfive Sadly using distributors for my kits won't solve the problem. They will still need all the data for every single component in a kit, including datasheets, country of origin, price etc. Right now I can't go through every product I sell and generate all of that.

@rc2014 But if an American citizen travels to the UK and buys one of those same kits from you and carries it home in a handbag, no problem with that, right?

@haitchfive I'm pretty sure that's ok. The xray operator at the airport might want to have a word with them and compliment them on their choice of kit, but otherwise I can see no problem.

@rc2014 Right. Then I can only think of the imposed measures as something created to incentivise tourism.

@haitchfive I remember in the 80s and early 90s there were regular "booze cruises" where a bunch of people from England jumped on a ferry over to France and bought back as much alcohol as they could because we could bring it in much cheaper (duty free).

Maybe a similar thing will happen with RC2014 Flights. A bunch of Americans fly over to the UK, buy as many Z80 computers as they can carry, and fly back again the same day.

@rc2014 You may have a created a mini-industry of its own. Retro-tourism, RC2014-tourism, or Z80-tourism. Popular label in the press pending.

@rc2014 it's really a shame, but i can't blame you. the US is really doing its best to become a pariah state over here.
i'll do my best to enjoy the RC2014 hardware i already have, and if i want more at a time you're still not shipping here, i'll do my best to work around it.

@pikhq Thank you. I know that this whole situation isn't the fault of the good folks that enjoy their RC2014 kits, but it feels like they are the ones suffering.

@rc2014 I’ve been looking at this too, so much paperwork it’s ridiculous, all it’s going to do is drive up prices and slow things down.
Sadly we have another couple of years of this childishness from trumpty dumpty.

@PaulaMaddox Based on how the last two years have gone, the next two feel like they could go on for ages. Who knows how much more damage he can do in that time.
