This is true in virtually every context. The "scarcity model" – the notion that you have to hoard stuff, help, encouragement, knowledge, education – in very seldom supported by the data, and only temporarily when it is. Yet our culture urges us to be stingy with all of it, and for those who have a lot of a given resource to hoard it to sustain their market.
Right up to our macroeconomic model, as this cartoon demonstrates.
