A constant-time algorithm might be implemented using conditional move instructions rather than conditional branches. In SSA (single static assignment) form, used internally to many compilers, this results in doing away with phi nodes that would be needed to merge data flow arising from where control flow merges, for instance, after the "then" and "else" parts of an if-then-else statement.
