@techokami @netbsd Ok, I asked what OS are you running for the dd command so I could tell if you got the block device right. /dev/sdd1 looks like Linux (of some sort). That's dd'ing the image to the first partition rather than the whole device. IIRC, you need /dev/sdd there. It's also wise to check dmesg to make sure the USB is detecting as sdd when you plug it in.
