@girlonthenet I wrote something a while back on exactly this kind of thing. It's close to my heart for my own "me too" reasons. This whole shitshow makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Well done. That is one well-written, properly hard-hitting blog post. You nailed something I completely missed:

Men need to stop being afraid of how they're going to be perceived by other men. Men, you need to face up to the horror of rape and its devastating effects. Stop laughing it off like it's some joke.

@GoingDownWithSundial thank you, and I'm so sorry you have your own reasons for it to be close to your heart too. It's utterly fucked up, and enraging. This is so normal for so many of us, and yet so easily dismissed or ignored by so many men. Big love, and thank you for sharing it.

@girlonthenet that's the scary part. It's normal for so many of us. Thank you for sharing your experience as well.

Mine was done to me when I was fourteen. For a while after, I couldn't stand to be in the male gaze. I wanted to fold in on myself walking down the street.

I'm fine now, but it took a few years before I could manage to stop it defining who I was.

Big love to you too x

@GoingDownWithSundial I am so so sorry, fucking hell. Fourteen. I completely understand what you say about wanting to hide from the male gaze, and not wanting it to define you. If you're comfortable sharing, can I read the post you mention that you wrote about it?

@girlonthenet Sorry, I had a lot of work meetings today.

The one in which I refer to the attack on myself is an introspecitve post on autism, people pleasing and my attack. I don't go into details of what was done to me, just the fallout and a message to my fellow survivors from all of us who have gotten through this as well as we can.

@girlonthenet I have been trying to tell people for years the Greek system is a rotten club of abuse of virtually everything you can put in FRONT of the word “abuse.” Sexual abuse. Drug abuse. Alcohol abuse. Physical abuse.

Against women. Against their own members. Shit, even animals at times.

I feel sick. I’ve seen frats and sororities (sororities have their own fucked-up traditions and covering up of hazing and abuse too, and often tolerate or ignore the bullshit from frats against their members). I have been to them. I’ve seen the people who come out of them. It’s terrible. They breed a certain kind of culture that we should not encourage in society. They are tolerated because they create almost cultish dynamics, and people who were past members think that shit is normal and harmless. It is not.

I have been of the opinion to prevent this from continuing to happen the Greek system must be dismantled. Completely. Communal housing must be handled by the campus itself, or this will continue to happen.

@girlonthenet if it helps, Hannah's bluesky post screenshot isn't formatting for mobile, it's cutting off on the right - don't know if a centre align or smallening would help!
