For the first time since we finished construction of our arts and crafts studio in early July, the weather is cool enough in the evening that I can have the window open instead of relying on air conditioning. It's nice not to be stuck in stale air. It's also nice to be able to hear the sounds outside in the distance.

@jbqueru Speaking of AC, we recently visited Samos and noted that there was basically no electrical solar panels on the houses. Considering the heat and the common solar availability, it was a bit surprising: with a few solar panels, running the AC should be more or less free and solve heat/cold problems much of the year. Any ideas why there isn't more solar in (maybe that part of) Greece?

@mikaeleiman Great question! Samos is not interconnected, and its electricity is mostly from a small oil-powered plant, plus some wind. There are projects there for grid updates, storage, and interconnection, to make PV more practical.

On the mainland, there's already more solar capacity installed than can be used or stored.

Greece uses utility-scale more than rooftop, because the upfront cost of rooftop panels doesn't fit the Greek financial culture well.

@jbqueru thanks! We saw the wind turbines on top of the mountain ridge. It makes sense that such a small power grid is trickier to move to sun and wind, harder to adjust to local supply variation with no regional support resources
