My Mom bought me some Gloria Steinem books when I was in my early 20s.

I remember how mind blown I was when I learned that in the late sixties or early seventies, she needed an escort to go to the Plaza hotel in New York for tea.

Women needed to be chaperoned.

And then younger women started rejecting the feminist label and I would tell them that story and stories about women who could not get credit cards without their husbands' permission.
