This is a really interesting article and see the point the author makes, they hold up.

But - that is too short-sighted: you can (and should) use the same arguments against:

- the Internet
- all Datacenters
- all the FAANG (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google)
- all VC (Venture Capital)

FAANG and VC, in particular, began cementing their advantage through lies, exploitation, and environmental destruction long before LLMs came along.

The Internet has been used to manipultate people, elections and stock prices.

So don't stop at LLMs - go full 360: you are using the Internet, your Internet-gestalt is full of all those things you describe in LLMs. Don't hide it, don't disguise it:

"The Internet is just a tool" for you @iris_meredith but a convenient one, you don't want to miss it.

I like your article because it drew my attention to the topic of tool-gestalt. I don't like that you're content to stay where it's comfortable for you.
