I have an old laptop with the external type of battery, which is dead. I want to recycle the old battery to have one less lithium one in the house, but I'm wondering how safe it is to have the empty slot when the laptop is plugged in.

I'm not so much worried about myself, but if I were to later give this batteriless device to someone, is there a risk of shock/electrocution if, for example, their fingers find their way into the compartment?

(I have no plans to find a replacement battery to fill the slot.)
