    Update: my dad had a patient who, upon seeing him, said “finally, a real American”

    I am pleased to report that my dad feigned ignorance to make the guy awkwardly explain what he meant, then said “no, I’m the diversity hire, all of them are the real Americans”

    Also reminded of the time my dad came home from the hospital and excitedly told me that he had just learned about “the LGBLT community”

    (this was in the 90s when LGBT was a new term)

    @dan

    My mom was an eye doctor and my dad was her office manager for nearly 30 years.

    Every so often, someone would call, often a salesperson, wanting to talk to "Dr. <lastname>", and my dad would pass the phone to her, but they'd still insist on talking to "Dr. <lastname>"

    So, the phone would go back to my dad, and he'd waste as much of the persons time as possible before telling them why he wasn't going to be doing business with them.
